'b' is the correct answer for the initial power entry to the TV just like everything else in the house. DC has not been used for domestic service since the late 1800's. Alternating current is all that is commercially available and should be common knowledge for anyone any where in our society. Obviously what should be common knowledge isn't. The alternating current is transformed into DC voltages that operate the television set and it's various functions. Should you be interested in just how that technology evolved, get a schematic of a color TV from the 1970's to see what all was done by the various stages in a vacuum tube operated TV. Those same functions are now done by LSI chips in the TV's.

B - alternating current.
When the rotor of an electric motor is turned, the motor will generate electric current, but the current will flow back and forth as alternating current. Most electricity is generated by burning coal to form steam, which operates a turbine which is then linked to the rotor, and this generates alternating current. Solar cells generate direct current, but this has to be turned back into alternating current before it can be used. The reason for this is most appliances are designed to operate with alternating current. However, digital systems like computers operate only with direct current. The electricity a computer uses has to be changed from AC to DC.

Although most will say that you plug your tv to an alternating current, that ac stops to the power supply and converts it to direct current. all components inside your tv then runs on direct current, and no tv will run purely on alternating current but most portable tv's , run purely on direct currents. so i'd rather select letter A. direct current.

Alternating.
Everything in the house runs on that because that is what the power company brings into the house.

If it comes out of a wall socket it is alternating.
Alternating current is the type of power that is sent out by the power companies so it is what you use wherever you get power from them.
Direct current is the type of power you get from a battery whether its your car batter, a AA, 9-Volt, etc.
