I thought the whole point of religion was not having to think for yourself.

Anyone who says they know what God's will or opinion is is a liar, selling something or both.
No human could understand, let alone know, what God feels or wants and anyone who thinks there is is either not using the logic, reason, intelligence and humility God gave them, or is trying to force you to belief as he/she does by using God's good name.
all the religious writings are made by humans and for humans...they have nothing to do with God any anyone who thinks otherwise is just plain wrong. I have faith that God would not be so ignorant, bigoted, unjust, hateful, evil, and ugly as the religious writings of the world are
Earl D> They did. it is not a planet. where you been? Not first time definition of planet has changed. Originally sun, moon were planets and earth was not. Anyway that is an argument over classification....apples and oranges.
alleninthehills> No not same and never equal. Science book has to actually proof the information in it....religious book just has to sound deep+profound no matter if it says sun is blue. So there can be no equality between an argument based on a book researched, tested and proved true and an argument based on a book that someone wrote about stuff no one can see, observe or test.

I give my opinion but I am a Christian and many of my opinions stem from my belief system. I only quote scripture if it is asked for or warranted. I use my own words to convey what I have to say most of the time.

A lot of Christian opinions are based on Scriptures. We don't just wake up in the morning with all our opinions premade and ready to go -- everyone bases their opinions on many different things and how these things interact in their daily life. If Scripture makes sense to someone, why would they NOT quote it?

I would say that's a pretty normal way of answering if your belief is that God's "opinion" is the only Truth. So, I suppose you just have to face it.
That being said, I myself don't believe in God.

No, we are should be separate from what the world thinks. We are do our best how to live like Jesus did. Following the world is another way to live. However, satan is in it devouring each and everyone of us. To pierce the Devil, you need God's word. God gave us the truth, wisdom, and knowledge. With that, we think for ourselves and choose rightneous over evil. What do you choose?

My opinion is divine view point from what I've studied in the scripture, which is Gods word and his absolute truth
Just because I quote the scripture or believe in the bible does not mean I'm not thinking for myself. It is my choice to
believe in the biblical scriptures and apply them to my daily life... My free choice

I would wonder how anyone could legitimately claim to "know" God, let alone present us with God's opinion on everything from appropriateness of sexual orientation to whether food is suitable to eat or not?
I mean somebody's personal relationship with a God is one thing, but trying to convince everybody else of this, and furthermore shunning anyone that doesn't agree with this interpretation, is just plain wrong.

Because a Christian is one who represents Christ on earth. We look at things from a heavenly view, and you look at things from a worldly view. You are asking us to do it your way. And, no thanks. I'll stick to God's Word.
And please stop telling us how to answer questions, and to stop quoting scripture. What do you expect? If you were asking a scientist questions, wouldn't you expect him to answer with a scientific answer? Or if you were asking a Buddhist a question, wouldn't you expect him to answer from their teachings, and if you were to ask a mechanic a question, wouldn't you expect them to go by his manual? The Bible is our manual for life. We will refer to it for anything, and everything. These aren't just God's OPINIONS. They are His very words of truth. I live by them.
