Hidden in what we know, but can't practice with stem cell research, which may be the cure to cancer, AIDS and a host of other debillitating illnesses-do you think Bush would change his stance on this issue if it was his wife, or daughters who were suffering(God forbid)? What about you die-hard Christian fundamentalists? What if it was YOUR loved one suffering from MS or Parkinson's? Would you change your mind then? Should religion get in the way of saving lives? I mean, isn't God the one who gave these scientists/doctors the ability to come up with ways to prolong our lives, anyway? Thoughts, please?

@coffee pot 12- What you are talking about is prevention, NOT cures. Yes, in a perfect world, super insects wouldn't wipe out whole crops of wild veggies, fruits, etc. and we wouldn't need pesticides. In a perfect world, marketing focus groups wouldn't exist to prove we consumers go for the bigger, brighter, shinier produce and leave the rest to rot-making a need for them to inject hormones into our foods. I could go on forever with this-but you get the point.
More importantly, you talk about how in the olden days, our ancestors didn't die of cancer and these other diseases we have today-you're right! We died at the ripe old age of 25 back then from things like simple infection and the common cold. Which just proves my point that science and modern medicine has a rightful place in this society and not living like the Amish, thankyou....

Religion should definitely NOT get in the way of saving lives, especially in the area of stem cell research, where the fetuses being used were already dead and we have so much to gain.

Religion should have no impact at all on general society and specially not science. Christianity has always been agains any progress made by any level of science. Without christianity the world would have been so much more safe, advanced, healthier and peaceful than it is now. Christianity is dragging down the natural development of the human species.

Three of my grandparents died of Cancer, the 4th died of complications from Multiple Sceloris, my aunt died at the age of 12 due to Cerebral Paulsy complicated by Pneumonia. Would I sacrafice the life of an unborn child to save their lives? Meaning would I play God for my own personal gain, absoloutly not. Stem Cell Research is exactly that, it's research, is it proven? No. Does it work? We don't know. How many babies do we need to kill to find out?

that is a loaded question pointing to an incorrect answer....

the cure for the many diseases you have mentioned has always been here...proper and correct nutrition .....numerous herbs and homeopathic remedies....

many of the diseases and cancer today can be traced to the chemicals, pesticides, processed foods, etc...

200 years ago how many of today's diseases existed?

with our wonderful technology we have created so many bugs that we can't catch them or understand them fast enough....

200 years ago we grew and ate our own food, hunted wild game, mothers birthed the babies at home and nursed them...

today this same family gets every thing from the super mega market.. fast food, processed, chemical, food dyes, additives, perfumes.

Instead of the wild game or the home grown we are now eating industrial farm raised, hormone, chemical, fish, pig, beef, fowl...in amounts that are horrendous....

200 years ago... children did not have ADHD, autism, strange birth defects, auto immune problems, childhood obesity, etc..

For the sake of convenience babies are given "infant formulas"...but what is the end result?

My kids had ADHD...removed all sugars, food dyes, chemicals from their diet...

My husband was diagnosed with MS 15 years ago...we met 4 years ago..I changed his diet, removed all processed and meats, dairy, processed stuff and introduce him to vitamins...

he is a 250 lb 6ft carpenter who never had MS but grew up on a dairy farm and all the chemicals, dairy products and big meat eating family...

It is not a religion thing....it is a common sense thing of eating properly for ones own health and telling the big companies to stop putting weird stuff into our foods for $$...

Religion is too deeply imbedded to get it out of our lives. It's going to take something new to replace it before we can get rid of this scourge.
