Cats all have different personalities, and just like us, they feel more comfortable with some people than others. I'm sure you have some friends that you prefer to spend time with more than others. I don't think it's anything that your boyfriend has done, it's just your cat's personality.
As soon as I say I'm going to bed, our male cat rushes to join me. I went on holiday recently to visit family and my husband said the cat never slept on the bed once whilst I was away.
It's like the old saying, owners don't really choose their cats, it's the cats who choose the owners.

One of my cats "Norris" who is an orange tabby & one year old is this way about anyone. He loves my lap and only gets on me. The moment someone comes into the room the is off like someone just shot at him. After it gets all quite he will return but is very skiddish when someone approaches in some instances but not all. One night he was on lmy lap and so not to move him I asked my son to bring me a blanket. When my son went to hand me the blanket he freaked out and flew off my lap using my bare thigh as a launch pad and went over my shoulder on off the back of the chair. Leaving me with a shredded thigh. Not sure why he does things like this as he has always been inside with all of us same people. Some cats, well all cats are strange at times.

If it only happens around your boyfriend, I think it could be a submission thing. I think that he sees your boyfriend as being the dominant one in the household, so he dutifully gets off your lap when your boyfriend gets home so that your boyfriend can sit on your lap, lol ;-)
When I was growing up I had 3 cats who constantly battled for the Top Cat spot. Whenever our female cat, Sophie, was on my lap, Toby (one of the male cats) would walk up, Sophie would get off my lap and then Toby would take her place!
I wouldn't worry too much about it, just give your kitty loads of love whenever your boyfriend is around :-)

Cats are solitary creatures and like and dislike who they please. We give off signals to animals that we are unaware of. If you look directly at a cat, it is a warning signal keep away, if you glance away, it is a come on I'm friendly and want to be with you. If you notice, when a stranger who dislikes cats, enters a room where there is a cat, the cat tends to go to that person to the annoyance of them, this is usually because the person keeps glancing away from the cat, giving a signal to come on. You probably do this yourself without realising, when you sit down, you are glancing away from the cat rather than looking directly at it and trying to get it to come to you.

Cats are very sensitive animals.... They have vibes that can alert them when there is something dangerous or something that is not. They can feel your emotions.... it's like sound waves... and that when they can get defensive. Cats also have feelings too... so you have to respect that, if your cat doesn't want to be bothered.... they will hissed, or draw their claws out...and oh yeah... they get jealous just like us humans... so basically your cat is jealous and doesn't want your bf there spoiling everything...The two of you need to play with him or her... that way they know that they matter. Hope this helps...

the cat may not like him, your boyfriend may pay too much attention to him, or, was there ever a time when he did come to you when he was around, and you started to pay attention to him(yourcat) but stopped to pay attention to your boyfriend? if so he may feel as if he doesnt get attention when he's there so he just gives up. im no expert, i've just had cats...just a guess, hope it helps?

It could be that your kitty simply doesn't want to share you with the boyfriend: Some cats are prone to jealousy.
I wouldn't worry about it: It's simply one of your kitty's quirks.
