YES! Eat all organic for a week and then eat some fruit that has been sprayed with pesticides. Even after you wash it you can taste the chemicals. Eat beef that was fed hormones and you will have bathroom trouble. It really does make a difference. All of these preservatives, hormones and chemicals have to be doing some harm. Look at the cancers and increase in birth defects! I switched to organic foods and all natural cleaning products. My health has never been better! My asthma is pretty much non-existent and my allergies have calmed down.

Not sure if the government cares so much but the producers might :-) Organic food is mostly genetically 'enhanced' to be able to resist nasty bugs without the help of pesticides. In the short run, pesticide-free food should be healthier, that's scientifically proven, unless the government puts some chemicals in scientists' heads to make them feed us false information. The long-run effects of genetically modified food have not been studied yet so we dont' know which one is less unhealthy. But dont' worry, most of the vegetables and fruits you eat are genetically modified anyway, so you might as well chose to eat the organic ones, at least this way you may live a little longer to see if you will turn into a beetle or something...

Organic foods are much better for you because they are natural, have no herbicides, pesticides, or artificial growth hormones, antibiotics and so on that are not good for human consumption. This may not apply to you personally but many people are allergic to the things put into our food supply. Chemical allergies are very common. Think about it, would you feed someone turpentine or formaldehyde? Yet many of the contents of non-organic foods contain these things. Read labels look up the artificial ingredients and find what their derivatives are. Some animals are fed ingredients to speed up their growth or with chickens to speed up their egg laying ability. These are harmful ingredients. Nitrates and Nitrites are also harmful.

Organic is better. It is more expensive but Trader Joe's and other similar stores do keep their prices down.

I believe if it is truly organic it is an excellent way to eat as there are no chemicals or pesticides etc: so therefore no harm to the body
It is natural, therefore it has the same substances as the body and is easily assimilated and digested with no harmful side effects which is what our bodies need, real, whole food and plenty of vitamins and minerals etc:
as far as the price, I have tried to grow organic and it takes much care and expense to do it right

I don't know what the scientific community thinks, but it's probably not a bad thing to eat food that is grown without hormones or pesticides. However most people who buy organic do so not because it's good for "us", but because it's good for all of us -- it consumes less resources to produce organic food, and it doesn't release chemicals into our water supplies. That is also why people are willing to pay more for organic food, just like they are willing to pay more for a Toyota Prius. Not because it saves money (it doesn't) but because it produces less harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

That being said, "LOCAL" is the new organic. We live in Austin, and we shop at HEB rather than Whole Foods because they are committed to local growers, and we would rather eat local strawberries that aren't certified, than certified organic produce from Argentina. The fuel cost of shipping reduces or negates the environmental benefit of growing organically, and also we just simply prefer to support our local economy.

The only thing I can see about organic food is that they find a different type of pesticide to kill the varmits, yet some of the latest studies who they say one thing and do another. So in the end you pay higher prices for the supposed organic food.

If a person is so worried, they should grow their own as millions of people did for years and years.

I think most people knew the 'actual' answer to your question but certain degree of denial is always there.
To me a balance of Organic and natural grown food is suitable for EVERYBODY............. reason being that if we are to only rely on organic food alone, then our body NEVER EVER build a defence agasinst all the germs and virus around us.
As a child, we are protected by our pareents but as we grow up ,we challenged our body to accept all type of food thereby automatically building up an immune defense system.
It is like an anti-virus software where you have protection against many known type of virus.
Hope i make a point!
Good Health 2 U All !!!

Organic foods are just food the way we used to grow them before the introductions of chemicals etc to crops. So yes, they are naturally good for you. Funny though how we now have to pay more for eating as we used to do.

Hi Freaky Boy

I had a giggle at your question. Don't you think it's more likely that McDonalds and Coke could be brainwashing people? Just have a look at the average person, do they look like they are more influenced by the fast food industry than organic farmers or the government?

But if you want a serious answer, have a look at this article http://organiclivinglifestyle.com/uncategorized/are-organic-foods-really-healthier-for-you

the question is, is non organic food healthy? when you do your research, you find that almost all the produce you buy at a grocery store has trace amounts of pesticides, all meat is full of hormones, all canned foods are chock full of preservatives. all food has essentialy beneficial protein and sugar chains, but organic food doesn't use pesticides or fertilizer or hormones just to gain a more profitable yield.
