I don't think its cruel, I think dogs are natural wild animals, and would always find shelter even if there wasn't a kennel. Just because they are outside in the rain doesn't mean your cruel!

They'll be fine, as long as it's not too cold for them outside. A family friend once bought a farm and the previous owner had a dog and used to make it sleep outside all year round, with only a small tree for protection. It was really malnourished and terrified of people so the guy buying the farm said I'll take the dog too and the farmer wanted a hundred quid for it, even though he obviously didn't give a monkeys about it cos he used to whack it with his stick and didn't feed it properly. So the guy paid and now the dog is really happy and healthy and has a nice kennel. So you're a much better owner than that farmer so don't feel guilty!

The most natural thing in the world is for dogs to run free in the outside world. The kennel is like the equivalent to a cave where they would have gone in the wild. They do what's natural. Don't feel guilty.

No it's not so long as the kennels are properly waterproofed and raised enough off the ground so that water doesn't get in through the door if the rain is heavy.

I have a Golden and he loves to run in the rain with me. But he hates to be left outside in the rain, by himself.
But no, if the dogs can get out of the weather and stay warm, there is nothing wrong with it.
In fact, I do let my dog outside when it is sunny, so that he can sleep in the sun...

If the shelter is there and accessible to them and they have a choice to use it or not, you are not being cruel. The working and sporting dogs often have to work in the rain, it doesn't affect them other than making them wet. If you are talking about a toy breed (Chihuahua, Yorkie) they are not very weather proof, they were made to be lap pets and protected from weather.

Its not something I would do, my dogs are part of the family and I would not put them outside in a kennel, whats the point of having them if they don't live with you in the house.
Having said that, my back door is always open and the dogs are free to be in or out as they please.

I don't think it is, but I am a softy, and I bring our dogs inside when it rains, or at night in the winter when its cold. And we have an english mastiff, a rott, and a pug. They have a massive dog house, but I feel like they might get scared. lol
