if not... what technology or method do you suggest that we can use or do to compensate for the errors of the INS?? (we have included GPS )

It is very much possible to create a stand alone inertial navigation system, for that matter, for any vehicle. It is the difference in integrating with the system and accuracy requirements are different and calibration briongs outerrors in ins and computers take care of the errors and give correction.

Just a comment from an olde pilot. There are many wonderful ways to navigate an airplane in these times Lindberg made it across the Atlantic using none of them. He used the oldest system of all, called "pioltage". Fancy word for looking out the window. Most of the electronics in a modern car are not there because they are NEEDED, but because they sell more cars.
