As a dread mixture of 70% Scottish, 25% Cornish and 5% other, I have ALWAYS contended that the "pirate" accent was based on Henry Morgan's accent.

The Morgan family (although Cap'n Morgan was born in Wales) is historically from near Mousehole.

Captain Hook and the whole British red coat wearing curly wig having vicious pirate who loves their queen is pretty much based on him.

Strangely enough, he also won the first ever libel suit in the world.

Biographies of him discuss his code switching- he could sound perfectly upper crust when dealing with nobles and governor's daughters, then be the gruffest of scurvy dogs when dealing with his men.

Actually most of the more famous pirates actually spoke the King's English like proper gentelmen. The lower class pirates spoke Creole, Spanish, and Dutch.

by using fact often Western Pirates have been well-known, so as that they are all made to look to have west-united states accessory. actually, there have been, and are, many pirates who don't have west-united states accessory, who stay and paintings in the east.
