Anything is possible...
There have been predictions for the end of the world for...ever.
I take this a little more seriously b/c this is based on mathematical predictions-the religious part is associated with it but not the reason. They also predicted the coming of the Conquistadors. They got the day right but they assumed they were gods and were almost wiped out b/c of it. So, they got the result wrong. I've heard on the history channel that they did indeed mean an end to civilization on earth. There are examples throughout history of large civilizations who outdid their supply and perished-much like we are now.
I've heard there was some mention in the Bible, the Yellowstone eruption and the possibility of a meteor strike. It all seems a little unnerving but there is nothing we can do about it...except hope they were wrong again about the result.
I have heard that it could be an end to division among cultures and religious ideas; that it could be a 'birth' of some kind...so, it might not be a bad thing but who knows?

21 December 2012 is the date that the Mayan calendar ends. The Mayans were an advanced ancient civilisation with a good grasp of the concept of time and they produced a calendar that extended far into the future. They did not predict the world would end it's just that 2012 is the last date on their calendar. Similarly, if you buy a journal the last date will be 31 December but that doesn't mean the world will end then.
The Yellowstone super-volcano appears to be well overdue for an eruption. We don't know exactly what's going on beneath the surface of the planet so there may not be any imminent threat from Yellowstone.
Historically there have been several such volcanoes, they are caused by the creation of a huge magma chamber beneath the Earth's surface, pressure builds within the chamber until such time as it erupts. Unlike conventional volcanoes there's no classic pyramid shaped mountain but instead a series eruptions that can join together to form a much larger eruption.
Some super-volcanoes can erupt several times then never erupt again (if the source of the magma 'dries up'), I live not that far from the edge of one, in England of all places (in the distant past an extremely active volcanic zone).
Yellowstone and similar areas have massive potential to cause widespread devastation should there ever be another major eruption. It’s like earthquakes, meteors, asteroids etc – one day it will happen, it could be today, tomorrow of not for thousands of years.

No where in the bible.. does it say the world will come to an end.. however it does say of end times... meaning when the Lord comes..
With this in mind... spend less time worrying about the end... as the end for any of us could be in a day of travel, being in the wrong place at the right time, an illness that is yet to be diagnosed. Alot can happen in five years...
And just live right and work well. People keep asking these kind of questions... and the reality is no one really knows..

People have been predicting the END of the WORLD for thousands of years and they will continue to do so, untill time ends and the shadow is triumphant. (literary joke/quote)
But seriously people are always claiming that the sky is falling and we are all doomed. Anyone remember the year 2000? All sorts of predictions claiming it was the end of the world that judgement day was at hand. Even the "2000 bug" programming scare wasn't as bad as people thought it was gonna be.
2012 is just the next closest time that people can bring up as a D-day for the end of time. Who knows they will probably say the same thing when 2112 rolls around.

I disagree, Esther. Read Revelation 21:1
1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

only GOD himself knows when the world will end. There are so many people out there who are "predicting" when it will end and getting every one into a frenzy - just live your life to the fullest and when the time comes make sure you have accepted Jesus Christ and GOD into your heart and you will have a place in the KINGDOM of heaven!
