A kid we watch started limping on Monday. My mom told her mom yesterday that she noticed that she was limping. Her mom said that she didn't notice (as if she didn't really care) She doesn't pay that much attention to her. Shes been off of work for 2-3 months and has brought her to our house to watch her all the time when she could be spending some time with her. And she also said that she would stay home with her but she just can't handle her.( as in shes gets annoyed and wants her own time not wanting to get bothered by her kid) But anyways we don't really know if its really hurt or if it will go away. She doesn't seem bothered by it though. Should we still be concerned?

We asked her why she is walking like that. She is reallllly smart for 2 years and can talk better than some 4 year olds we have had and she said she fell? But doesn't seemed bothered by it

I too have a daycare and I understand how frustrating parents can sometimes be. About the limp, that really should be checked out. My son had a slight limp this summer, it continued to get worse and worse. When we brought him into the doctors they treated it very seriously and said it could be a number of things. There is a growth plate in the hip area that can slip out of place (causing a limp) if not corrected the child's leg will not grow. I would talk to the mother one more time, documenting your conversation, stress the seriousness of situation. If she still does not take action, then call health and human services. Ask them what you should do.

Its too bad that the mom doesn't want to spend time with her little girl. Its sad but truthfully it sounds like shes better off with you during the day.

There is a condition in small children where the hip keeps slipping out of the socket. This could be the case with this child. It is also possible that the child has injured herself from a fall or (heaven forbid) it could that an adult has hurt the child.

Bottom line is..... if the symptoms are ignored .....that is child abuse in itself. You have a responsibility to have this child looked at.

just ask her if she hurt it in anyway. if it is bad, then do this
R.I.C.E.

R-rest-rest her leg for a while
I-ice-put ic on the area covered by a damp cloth for 20 minutes, then take it off for 20 minutes, and repeat
C-compression-wrap it in a banage or something just to apply pressure, but not so much that you cut of bloood flow
E-elevation-keep it raised at heart level for 20 minutes, then let it down for 20, and repeat

Call CPS and take her to the ER to have it looked it. It may be abuse, or neglect at the least. Either way if she's limping you need to make sure that its nothing serious.

Do you want to wait until the child is SERIOUSLY injured or what. Would a foster home care for her better or not? Tough questions but they need answered NOW!!!!!
