My question is why celebrities and other high profile people feel Darfur is more important than Iraq? I served a year in Iraq and saw so many Iraqis brutally killing one another based on religion and tribal affiliation. Citizens had to flea homes and villages because violence is so bad in some areas. Is Iraq less important because it was the American invasion that fueled the violence there? Is the violence in Iraq not as important as Darfur?

A) Nobody is doing much of anything about Darfur...it's not violence, it is genocide. Hand a child a crayon and a piece of paper in Darfur, and you will get back a picture of their parents being hacked to death in front of them.
B) Rape is considered a legitimate practice in Darfur. It is estimated that thousands of women are raped each month, often by "peacekeepers" sent to the area.
C) AIDS is rampant, and is killing vast numbers of people not otherwise targeted for execution.

Nobody is saying violence is worse for one group than another. But there is certainly major cause for concern in this area where nobody seems to give a damn and haven't given a damn for years.

I understand completely what you are saying. Iraq is full of violence and terror. It always has been and will be for a long time. It is going to take a collaborate effort (and not just from the US, Britain, and a few other nations-- the rest of the world must cooperate too-- including Iraqis!) to stop the violence in Iraq. They have been divided over religion for the past 2,000 years.

My husband is in the military. Many citizens do not know this, but I know for a fact that we have given aid to countries in Africa that has never reached them. For example, we have dropped crates of food for peasants only to see a bunch of warlords steal them from the poor, shoot at American planes and any Africans who tried to get the food, and hoard the food for themselves. Our media doesn't say anything about that! The key to stopping all of the violence, AIDS, and terror in Africa is education. The victims now do not know any better; they have been brainwashed and have lived in deplorable conditions their entire lives. If the world would get together and teach these people the benefits of some sort of democratic government or effective safe-sex practices, is would really help. Again, however, this needs to be a collaborative effort in the WORLD, including the people of Africa, to make an effective change. The same principle applies to Iraq. The United States cannot be the savior for everyone; others have to step up to the plate as well.

I hope that celebrities and others who have high-profile power pay attention and support our troops in Iraq and around the world. No matter what your political views are, members of the United States Military risk their lives so that we can enjoy the liberties that make our nation so effective.

Thank you for all that you do. I am honored to have had the chance to chat with you.

What do you want celebrities to do for Iraq??

last time I checked, it was occupied by the American government and unsafe for anyone. The American military forces should get out of Iraq and most of the killing would stop.. that is a simple remedy to the killing fields there..

in Darfur... the situation is quite different.. as the problem is a result of lack of the UN to do their job... but we all know that the UN is a joke anyway.. they have proven this time and again..

you are comparing apples with oranges... these two fruits are VERY different...

Because it is the "in" thing right now in Hollywood. It was Tibet a few years ago. Remember Richard Gere and the concerts for "Save Tibet" and now it is Darfur, and (RED). 5 years from now when nothing has changed in Darfur like how nothing has changed in Tibet we will hear about some other impovershed country in Africa, Asia or South America. Is "Save Uruguay" on the way?

You cheated. You asked more than one question and only gave up five points.
I disagree with the premise of your question. Iraq is the responsibility of the coalition. Darfur is the responsibility of the UN. The US is not the world's police force.
You misspelled "flee."
The coalition entered Iraq, and there was dancing in the streets. The citizens were happy to be freed of the dictator.
Violence in Iraq is caused by muslim crazies who want their perverted form of religion to dominate.

It's not that Darfur is more important, it is that nothing is being done there at all.

Because nobody can say in the open :save Palestine and the Palestinians - it is just the way to let yourself smoke without dealing with the real issue - that makes you in the safe side .
