Hi.First of all you do not pray to a statue. You are praying to the person represented by the statue. It is not idol worship .All statues are blessed by the Priest, through the power of God.So to answer your question any statue will do,because you are praying to the person represented by the statue.

I can see by some of the answers from other people, they do not understand about Mary's role here on Earth and in Heaven.

You do not pray to any of them. They are all idols, Mary cannot intercede on your behalf because she is just as sinful as you are, there is only one intercessor-Jesus Christ- that will bring you into a right relationship with God.

1 Timothy 2:5 (New International Version)
5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

You pray to Mary and I can assure you that God will not listen becaue He takes no pleasure in idol worship.

John 14:6 (King James Version)
6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

God bless

Wow really great answers, I am surprised. But yes they are true praying to mary is doing nothing. Since the bible has been quoted let me just explain something. My best friend is catholic so I have a pretty good knowledge on this. I you were to pray to mary that is like saying God is not powerful enough to help you with whatever it is. I realize you pray to these saints and what not, because they are in heaven supposedly and that they are close to God. But like I said why not just go straight to God when He is the one that answers your prayers anyway.

See on Wed. we have prayer meeting, were we take prayer requests, people say hey my mom is real sick pray for her. Now we are not praying to our fellow church members and than in turn they are praying to God. We just pray right to God for there situation. Mary was just the earthly mother, she was born with sin. Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" All in the greek means all not everyone but mary. She did not need to be without sin in order to carry Jesus. If that was the case than God would of had to create her like he did Jesus, and so on and so on. There would have been a whole generation of people that were born without sin. Please listen to us just pray right to God and no more saints or mary.

None of them are holy, they are just statues. Praying to a statue = idol worship

It wasn't Mary that died on the cross, rose from the dead, and lives evermore to make intercession on our behalf.
And certainly no statue.
Hebrews 7:22-28, particularly 25, read these.

Well in God's word it says that In Exodus 20:3-5 "Thou shalt have no no other god's before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

I think you should look for a BIBLE believing church.

Sadly your not asking a real question, your trying to cause a fight.

We do not pray to statues, they serve as reminders- and they work for me.

This is totally contradictory to what the Bible teaches!

Read this:

1 Timothy 2:5 (New International Version)

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

Did Mary die for your sins? Did the"saints" die for your sins?

No-Jesus & HIM ALONE died for your sins, & it is idolatry to pray to a statue of anyone else!

Don't pray to Mary... She didn't do anything but carry the baby Jesus. She was chosen by the Lord. Don't pray to anyone or anything but God
