Blowing an engine during the race definitely gets the team more publicity, maybe not all good, but it's still publicity. Blowing an engine after the race is over because you want to act like a 5 year old and bounce it off the rev limiter showing off is just plain stupid. A large group of people spend countless hours developing and building those engines just so you could turn around and blow it up. It also makes more work for the entire crew that has to clean up the mess. Somebody, somewhere once said, "If you can't win, at least be spectacular."

No.... Think about this .......
If you were the primary sponsor and you see you car blowing engines and not finishing the race wouldn't you be a little concerned.
Sure you get " some " T.V time but the media thrives on belittling a team and there sponsors when they have problems
The fact is you cannot win or finish a race if you blow a engine.
Sponsors look at drivers and teams on a performance basis. Primarily consistency that will get you more sponsor dollars.
If your team dose not preform well you will loose valuable money
So you should come to the conclusion that negative publicity is not healthy for your race team

I hate to see it on the track personally. It drops oil on the track and causes cautions that in return effects the outcome of the race whereas if there had not been a caution then someone else would have won the race. Cautions is basically what started the beer throwing at Talladega from the fans. The fans want to know that someone won a race fairly and a caution just makes it a little unfair. So in that since I'd say it harms the publicity.

No its not. The reason you see budweiser so much when he blows an engine, is because its dale jr. it wouldnt matter if he was in the porta-potty they would still be trying to interview him. If somebody like morgan sheppard blows an engine, the announcers dont even hardly mention it. Countless times ive watched the ticker at the top of the screen list cars as "off" or "out" and never even know what happened to them because the announcers dont think its "important enough"

It seems that way especially with Jr this yr, well he has blown several motors..Take Bristol for instance there were more media people over at his hauler than over in victory lane..I'm sure bud would rather him get publicity because he ran great and won, hopefully they will get that type of publicity before he leaves the bud car... You know out here in calif, especially up in hollyweird there is no such thing as bad publicity..

It is publicity, but I wouldn't call it good or even wanted publicity. When a car blows a motor, to the back of the field it goes position wise. NO, I repeat.. NO sponsor wants their car to finish @ the back of the field due to mechanical problems. A sponsor looks DOWN on the car finishing @ the back. So it may be publicity, but it's definitely unwanted, sponsor-wise and team-wise.

Sure is. Lots of camera time for the sponsor plus all the smoke and flames makes for a good show.
Hopefully no drivers are injured during the exhibition.

no it isnt a good thing but it happens when you run to hard on the track.some motors cant take all the rough stuff some drivers put the car through.but the fans and all the sponsors should understand that things happen.

I think it depends on which team we're talking about, of course if Alonso or Hamilton blow their engines, then for sure Vodafone and Mercedes won't be too happy about it, but if its a lower team like Spyker or Honda, it won't be that big a deal since they're probably used to it by now.

It gets you more camera time than just finishing 30th without incident, but winning the race get you a lot more.
