That sounds very poetic, but it's actually pathetic. People believe that they have absolutely no control over their hearts when it comes to love. They seem to think that love is a mysterious force that lays a hold of them, and they are powerless in resisting it. Love is a choice. You choose who you will love. You didn't give your heart away. You loved someone, and after that relationship was over you didn't want to let it go. You are going through life with a constant longing for something that cannot be. Somehow you have found yourself in another relationship, and what you are doing to that poor guy is terrible. He doesn't deserve the half-hearted involvement that you are giving him. If you are so helplessly in love with your old flame, why aren't you with him? Could it be that he is in love with someone else? You really need to get past this. Until you do, you will be dragging this baggage into all of your relationships. If you can't do this on your own, see a counselor... do it for your own good.

Yup, for 22 years and I wish he would just leave.
