thank all you wonderful ppl who tried to help me i have already talked to a vet and he told me that since hes still alive hell probably be alright but since its been over a hour that he couldnt do anything, since the poison has already made its way through his body, he told me theres not much to do but make him comfortable and keep water and food around him and if hes still alive to take him to the vet in the morning to see if his insides are damaged. sounds kinda fubar to a pet lover like me but thats all i got, i was just hoping somebody might know something more comforting. anyways thank all you guys. peace and love to you .

A Vet or a Clinic as rapidly as possible. It sounds serious and could even be a snake bite. If you can't find a 24 hour clinic, be prepared to get a new cat.

I hope your cat is fine by now. Cats are resilient creatures, thank God!

About 3 years ago one of our cats came in, playful and happy as usual. About 6 hours later, my partner, cats and I cuddled up together on the sofa to watch a film. Scamp, the cat in question, went out, we thought to use the litter tray. He didn't come back straight away, which was unusual as he spends all the time at home with us. We went looking for him and found bloody stools all over the kitchen floor and blood oozing out of his bottom.

We took him straight to the vet - our vet runs a 24 hours aniaml hospital with emergency facilities. It turned out he'd been poisoned when he was outside, over 6 and a half hours before. It could not have happened inside the house as we're very careful, and don't even have any plants or flowers that are toxic to cats. In fact, the vet said the symptoms were those of arsenic (rat poison) poisoning.

The vet gave him several injections and said he could do no more as the poison was well established in his body. We could leave him at the hospital or take him home, but no more treatment was going to be given as there was nothing left to do. Money wasn't an option as all our cats are insured. We decided to take him home so that he could be with us. The vet admitted he thought that was the right thing to do as he knows our cat from checkups and has always joked about how close he is to us.

Here we are 3 years later. Scamp is curled up on my lap as I'm typing. He always sits like this, getting in the way when I'm using the laptop. lol He's as strong as an ox and the poisoning episode has not damaged him in any way.

The point of this story is, try not to worry about your cat. Poisoning sounds so terrible, but if a cat survives the first hour, it has a good chance of pulling through.

One thing I would suggest is finding a vet who offers an emergency service, as you cannot always guarantee that your cat will be ill during office hours. :-)

wtf? you talked to a vet and that's what they told you????? this is NOT what my vet would do! maybe it was a tech you talked to?? i can't understand why a vet would tell you to wait & that's it's already thru the body thus don't go in...honestly i'd still be looking for an emergency vet to bring him in to. depending on what is wrong, there is a window of time in which you can help them and by the time you get him there hours later, that window may be closed. for example, if he had gotten into antifreeze (which does not seem to be the case with this one, they don't swell up and act drunk, they usually start with vomiting green frothy stuff), but if he had, you have about 4 hrs to get them in before the organs start to fail & the poison crystalizes in their body. other poison can work the same way - if you can get them in quick enough, it can be neutralized and the animal stabilized, not to mention that the cat could at least be put on oxygen to help wth breathing and be made more comfortable. PLUS i wouldn't recommend offering any food if he's breathing hard - it would be too easy for him to aspirate it into his lungs. i hope your kitty makes it, but if is does, it won't be from the help of vets like that.

I think the vet was very superficial! Some poisons act slowly and they have antidotes, the commonest being vitamin K (for rat poisons, mostly). Please, no matter what the time is, contact a vet and ASK that he gives him a vitamin K injection, at least. Even if the specific poison is not rat poison, the vitamin won't hurt the cat, but if it is, it will save its life.

Could he have been bitten by a (poisonous) snake or something?

The only thing for antifreeze poisoning is the vet's.
