All of the responses mentioned are good. Just remember that people don't know what to say at a funeral and feel awkward about it. If you can put them at ease by your words then they will relax too.
Often, people avoid talking about the deceased, when it would be more helpful to share happy memories. Those stories help the family to process the grieving and to move on with their lives.

It is the PERFECT thing for people to say who are a bit shy or aren't inclined to talk at length about the deceased. The perfect response from you is, "Thank you so much." Everyone is comforted.

I'm not saying other expressions of sympathy can't be used, and personalized to fit you, the circumstances and the deceased, but the above is generic, and most people appreciate hearing the condolence and the response. It's part of our culture.

I don't understand. Is there something wrong with saying "I'm sorry for your loss" ? It's the perfect sentiment at such a time. Or are you just tired of the same thing over and over? If that's the case, I don't have an answer for you.

Your response to that sentiment would simply be "thank you."

If you want to give your condolences to someone who has lost someone you can simply say something like, "I'm so sorry to hear about ___________." Then if you like you can follow up with adding a nice comment or story that you remember about that person.

If you have lost someone and somebody tells you "I'm sorry for your loss", a simple "Thank you" is sufficient.

The pc thing to say is thank you. And if you have anything additional to say, like a pleasant story or memory, let it be known. Otherwise, just say thank you.

"I'm sorry for your loss" is completely appropriate. Those are great words to you.

As for a response, I think a nice one would be, "Thank you for your concern."
