My old, old Betty Crocker cookbook. It is good home-cooking. Simple recipes, simple ingredients. It also has an emergency substitution list on the back cover. When I am looking for a certain recipe I always look in there first and usually find what I'm looking for.

The Blue Willow Inn cookbook. The actual inn is now a restaurant with true southern cooking. It is located about an hour outside of Atlanta & Margaret Mitchell took her description of Tara when writing "Gone with the Wind" from the inn. Not only does the cookbook have wonderful southern recipes, there are several stories about celebrating holidays, the stories behind the dishes, etc..

Good reading & the recipes are wonderful!

I have over 200 cook books but if I had to pick one it would have to be My Good Housekeeping cook book because it covers a borad spectrum of foods and it has been the best for great basic recipes especially if I'm cooking something for the first time.
It also has a color index full of pictures and some great general and special instructions on preparations of some tricky foods

Good Housekeeping. I have this for ideas only, I am my own cook. In other words I cook my own recipes but this I used when I first got married to entice my husband to eat more than just chops, stake and steak & kidney pies or puddings. It took a long time but he eats what I cook and loves it.

I love my betty crocker cook book combined with recipes online. Sometimes I don't have all the ingredients that the recipe calls for, so I check things out and make my own based on several recipes.

The newest running of the Joy of Cooking...it's completely updated and includes EVERYTHING you could possibly want to know about cooking ANYTHING. I use it ALL the time. I've used it so much actually that some of the pages are crumpled and stained with chocolate, butter, flour,eggs...you name it. I should probably buy myself a new one.

My Good Housekeeping cook book that I think was printed in 1970. It's simple, easy to use and covers almost everything!

I would recommend it to everyone!
