um ok the yahoo answers censors have spoken. i should stick to fish.

deputys arguement is sound. there is no evidence that donuts at 7/11 directly cause obesity either. its indirectly related to roofing materials and the astrological pattern of castor and pollux. thank god police don't need intelligence to get the job done -- they have tasers to do it.

Cops are way to eager to use tasers. People have been killed with tasers, and it wasn't necessary to taser that kid.

Yeah, right deputy, you're a liar. ANYTIME electrical shock is applied, a fatal arrhythmia can occur. It's a rare event, but documented. The kid was subdued, he was being tasered to be brutalized. He knew the taser was turned on, that appeared enough to bring him in control, as he was requesting not to be shocked.

Ever wonder why cops are hated? It's stuff like that unprofessional conduct as shown on the video.

Obvioously you have never attempted to control an agitated subject. It takes more than one person to control a worked up person, look in the ER...it takes several nurses at times to hold down a patient, cops are no different.

The whole idea is to restrain the person with the least amount of harm to the person resisting and others around as well as to the officer himself. With that in mind, it takes several people to hold down a person, esp a person thats fighting.

Also, you should learn the whole story behind the article and not go on what the video shows. If you did you would learn that the person that was tasered was given an alloted amount of time at the podium and instead of asking questions, went into a personally motivated rant of the elections of 04. Even when told to move back and leave the microphone, he refused, creating more of a scene. The taser is a device used to gain compliance, which in this case it did.

No,I think the taser, is now being part of the standard issue items, for controlling a suspect, and thats why it was used alot more. There are some police departments that exist that should never be allowed to have them, these are the ones that use them frequently outside local nightspots .I hope there are some guidelines.I don't think obesity has much to do with it ,just the convenience of having them.

First off, your slam towards the officer involved has no relevance to your argument, and is not needed. Second, he was not complying to the officer's request to comply and go peacefully. The subject was plainly resisting arrest and needed to be subdued quickly before the incident escelated and turned worse. He was beginning to become a threat to himself and others and needed to be taken out of the room as soon as possibly. The next step, after he did not comply with the officer's thrying to handcuff him was to tazer him. He is lucky that was all that he recieved. In our jurisdiction, there would have been different consiquences.

I commend the officers for doing their job and doing it correctly.

***And for the record, Mr. Patrioticlib -

There has been studies to proove that tazers do not kill people. If anyone has ever died after being administered a shock from a tazer, it has been proven that the death was caused by a sequence of events or another cause during that time.

I don't believe the student was obese.

I also don't believe the cops have to wrestle around on the floor indefinitely with a noncompliant person, and a potential threat.

I think tasers are more humane than the old truncheon, or nightstick.

wow, that's not nice.
i never liked generalizations - all cops don't eat donuts, and all cops are not overweight.
there are a lot of freaky people out there, and if i was putting my life on the line for people i didn't know everyday that are eager to put me down, well, then i might be a little taser happy, too.
just my opinion, so it's not wrong, ;)

They did control the whacko. People on drugs can be incredibly strong. Police are trained to use surperior force. I think the police did a good job.

Sure, just as heavy clothing can decrease the effectiveness of hollowpoint bullets, fat and size can make a person hard to get under control.

You really should limit your opinions to the subjects you're a Top Contributor in, law enforcement and police tactics obviously aren't among them.
