Please no radical answers from people who just want to say Islam is a bad religion. I want an honest answer. If there are mentions of stuff like that, I would like the chapter and verses. I have read parts of the Koran and never read anything like that. The reason I ask this question is because Bill Maher said it does say it in there. If it does say kill infidels, in what context does it talk about it?

There is nothing in the Quran that tells Muslims to kill Non-believers. There are verses that refer to war and this is what many critics take out of context and say it tells Muslims to kill Non-Muslims.

For example the most popular is:

So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the pagans wherever you find them, and take them captive and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-due, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful

Quran Tawba Chapter 9 Verse 5

As you read this verse you probably have already made some judgments, saying “How can anybody justify this?” However this verse is being quoted out of context. If you read the verse before this it sheds more light on what is going on.

(But the treaties are) not dissolved with those Pagans with whom you have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in aught, nor aided any one against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end of their term: for Allah loves the righteous.

Quran Tawba Chapter 9 Verse 4

As you can now without a doubt see there were covenants and treaties in place which had been broken by some of the pagan tribes of Arabia. As you can plainly see war was not waged on tribes which had abided and kept true to their word and Allah clearly reminds us of that.

It is obviously not talking about killing Christians and Jews (People of the Book) or anybody else for that matter. However some may still be thinking, “Does that justify war?” However the following verse explains

Will you not fight a folk who broke their solemn pledges, and purposed to drive out the messenger and did attack you first?

Quran Tawba Chapter 9 Verse 13

It takes a bit of study to put a verse in its contexual context and historical context to get the full picture but unfortunatley people don't have the knowledge or patience to do this.

EDIT:

OK The Virus gives you a link to Ali Sina- I’ll give you link too, actual debates of Ali Sina’s lies being exposed:

http://examinethetruth.com/ahmed_sina.htm

Then Baghdad Pete! tries to con you into thinking 5:33 is telling you to kill infidels:
In Islam we can only defend ourselves and never begin any aggression. This is not even referring war or battle but punishment for murder and stealing. It refers to an account of people who came to Medina betrayed the Muslims, stole the Prophets camels and murdered his Shepard. This method of punishment for such crimes really work, see for yourself on the Nationmaster.com website and compare crime stats of Saudi Arabia, to the likes of the US and UK.

Then he goes on to prove the point I made above of 9:5.

He then says 47:4 but never completes the verse:
Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost. (Quran 47:4)

Why is the Quran talking about smiting necks during a battle? What else are you going to do in battle, sit down a knit maybe? War is a fact of life it’s in human nature as much as we would like to deny. The verse tells us if you face a time when you are fighting oppression it is permissible.

As this further highlight Baghdad Pete’s ignorance when he talks about the lunar calendar. In the Christian faith Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox unless the full moon is on the equinox in which case it is after the following full moon.

This is why Easter moves dates!

EDIT2:
The Virus, you can see exactly from the link he doesn't bring any real logical argument against the Prophet (pbuh) as he claims, Muslim preserved the knowledge of many civilisations. People were given the weight in Gold of any book they translated into Arabic.

My you should research the House of Wisdom in Iraq! As for Ali Sina's claim about the Library in Alexandria, the legend has been dismissed by some as a later invention of Christian crusaders eager to justify the "barbarism" of Muslim armies. While the first Western account of the supposed event was in Edward Pococke's 1663 century translation of History of the Dynasties, it was dismissed as a hoax or propaganda as early as 1713 by Fr. Eusèbe Renaudot, and other later scholars agreed, including Alfred J. Butler, Victor Chauvin, Paul Casanova and Eugenio Griffini.

Bill Maher is correct and here are the Surra's to prove along with the pages numbers too. Quran 5:33 (Kill those against Islam) The only reward of those who make war upon allah and his messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off or will be expelled out of the land.

Quran 9:5 (Slay Non Muslims) Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolitators where ye find them and take them captive and besige them and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo, alaah is forgiving and merciful.

Sounds like a great guy this Allah, thank (my) God that he isn't my higher power. My God would never kill with such disregard for human life. That is strictly devil speak and utilizing his little minions to do his bidding...

Quran 47:4 (Beheading) Now when ye meet in battle those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks until, when ye have routed them, then making fast of bonds and afterward either grace or ransom till the warlay down its burdens....

Most people don't realize that modern muslims continue to follow the practices from their ancestors when they were pagans. Muslims claim that they are not idolitors, yet they face the Kabaa (Mecca), all of their festivals are based on a lunar calender - which so happens to be ruled by Satan. All of their holy sites basically are idols that they worship towards.

There are ayat saying that of course, but on top of that particular ayat there are several ayats, explaining the condition, and after that particular ayat always another ayat related as well.

W/o verses, I can explain you that:

They who were called The infidels in Qur'an is the Quraiysh, Arabs that worshipped UZZA (statue).
They were Arabs .
They were really tried to kill Muhammad s.a.w because Muhammad s.a.w. really announced NOT TO Worship those statues.
They really torturing the muslims, and went to war against muslims. That's why there were verses saying when you see them (the infidels) just kill them, because for sure at that time they (the infidels) tried to kill all muslims.

Jews and Christians never called as infidels in Qur'an.

It's todays Christians who think they are the one that called as infidels in Qur'an. ( I wonder why, maybe they see their own reflection)
In Qur'an they were called the Nashara.
Muslims were not fighting the Christians during Muhammad s.a.w. alived, sure the Christians did lots of backbitings, but the prophet let them be. We were only told for not put them as our leader or people in charged because they are not trustwothy, they bend things/facts abt muslims and Islam and the truth, and they are full with hatred to muslims. (which I see now as truth).

Quran is the last Word of God-a Manual for humanity Quran is the most criticized Book in the world but no one as yet has found any unfair, unjust or bad thing for the humanity.

Most of the critics of Islam choose some verses, out of context, and start opposing the religion.

Killing of innocents (irrespective of his/her faith) is totally forbidden and treated as a great sin in the eye of God.

Killing in defence is allowed in every religion. It is necessary for the survival of a civilization hence Islam permits its followers to defend themselves against aggressions. What is wrong !

The verses of surah TAUBA 9:1-13 in Quran are mostly reffered to blame Islam but they forget to realize that the answer of their questions is also found within these verses! These verses refer to the Treaty ( between Muslims and Pagan Arabs) and as well as its breaking from the Pagans by taking part in attacks and helping the enemy of Muslims.

This is the occasion when God allowed Muslims (of Medina) to fight and kill them in the Bettlefield.( NO EVERY WHERE!).

These verses do not allow every Muslim to kill every unbeliever as the opponents try to blame Islam.

Of course not, that would be ridiculous. Imagine when the Muslims were a minority, at the start of Islam, IMAGINE if they actually were told to kill everyone!!! There wouldn't be Islam today. If anyone thinks about it logically, the Only Logical Conclusion is that Muslims are NOT Told to kill anyone just because they disagree with them or their faith, infact it tells quite the Opposite:

Say: Come, I will recite unto you that which your Lord hath made a sacred duty for you: That ye ascribe no thing as partner unto Him and that ye do good to parents, and that ye slay not your children because of penury - We provide for you and for them - and that ye draw not nigh to lewd things whether open or concealed. And that ye slay not the life which Allah hath made sacred, save in the course of justice. This He hath command you, in order that ye may discern.
(6:151)

[60:8] God forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for God loveth those who are just .. God only forbids you, with regard to those who fight you for (your) Faith, and drive you out of your homes, and support (others) in driving you out, from turning to them (for friendship and protection). It is such as turn to them (in these circumstances), that do wrong.

whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind.
(5:32)

Prophet Muhammed used to actually seek peace with the neighbouring Christians, Jews and Pagans and he would sign Peace Treaties with them. Most of these Peace Treaties used to be broken by the Pagans, and that is what the Quran is talking about (defending yourself when attacked). It's stupid to even say a thing like that when Prophet Muhammed's biggest supporter amongst his own family, his Uncle Abu Taleb, Died a Non-Muslim. Prophet Muhammed was DEVASTATED and he mourned him for an entire Year. So if Muslims were asked to kill Non Muslims then Prophet Muhammed would have had to do it right ?? It's just so Wrong I find it funny. All those people, all those 'Muslims' that fight the Soldiers in Iraq/afghanistan are not doing it because they want to ''kill non-muslims'', they're doing it because they feel that they are being Opressed. I'm not excusing it, because I don't know anything about it. But I know that this is their reason, they don't want american soldiers in their country telling them what to do (and I would understand why). Prophet Muhammed's Biggest Ally was the Roman Emperor, who was a CHRISTIAN (who later embraced islam). The Evidence is Clear, and saying that the quran says to ''kill infidels'' is just false and that Maher person must be a loon. If that was true then how can Christians and Jews live amongst the Muslims IN Arab Countries, where the majority of people are Muslims, they would've been dead by now right.

If there is nothing like that in Koran then why no one has ever managed to refute the Ali Sena’s charges against Islam and Muhammad? You should be able to do it very easily then.
http://www.faithfreedom.org/challenge.htm

Edit: To "By any means necessary"

Hahaha I am perfectly aware of this site my friend don’t go mad over it.

“ExamineTheTruth.com decided to call Ali Sina's bluff, and take him on regarding his challenge”

Just click on the link “Ali Sina’s” in the above line in this site http://examinethetruth.com/Challenge_Sina.htm and see what these so-called responders have tried to do. Now you may say that Ali Sena also disrespects Islam and Muhammad, but it is also a claim of Ali sena and he is trying to prove himself If he can’t prove himself fine. But I am not going to take any body seriously who uses ad –hominine arguments in the start of their so called rebuttal. If you have shown him as pig then prove it. Is this the best Muslims can do?

This is what the real problem with Muslims whenever you quote any thing from Quran it is always out of context but whenever they quote some thing it is with proper context. How to know who is right? When ever you interpret any thing it is always your own interpretation but when they interpret it then it should be correct. Why? Why god is not capable of writing some thing that can be understood very easily. Why we can not understand Koran without understanding all the history of Islam. We can not understand Koran without understanding books of history such as Srat, Tabari and Al Waqidi and all the Hadiths? Was god writhing a holy book or action, horror, thriller movie script?

it would seem to me that there are passages in both the bible and the Koran that are left to the interpretation of the reader,

the biggest problem is that there are people on both sides that don't realize those passages can be translated literally, physically, and metaphorically, and i have a hard time understanding that the almighty(who ever you chose to believe in) would call for the slaying of any person,

my god tells me to respect those of other faiths as he may be working threw them as he is in me :)

Look at all the liars and apologists who respond..

quotes straight from the "peaceful" Quran..

II.161: Surely those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers, these it is on whom is the curse of Allah and the angels and men all;

IX. 5-6: Kill those who join other gods with God wherever you may find them.

No friends with non believers4.144: O you who believe! do not take the unbelievers for friends rather than the believers; do you desire that you should give to Allah a manifest proof against yourselves?

No friends with non believers
3.28: Let not the believers take the unbelievers for friends rather than believers; and whoever does this, he shall have nothing of (the guardianship of) Allah, but you should guard yourselves against them, guarding carefully; and Allah makes you cautious of (retribution from) Himself; and to Allah is the eventual coming.

Fight non-believers
9.123: O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard (against evil).

Kill non-believers
4.89 : They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a help

Smite the neck and cut fingertips of unbelievers
8.12: When your Lord revealed to the angels: I am with you, therefore make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.

Smite the neck of unbelievers
47.4: So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates. That (shall be so); and if Allah had pleased He would certainly have exacted what is due from them, but that He may try some of you by means of others; and (as for) those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will by no means allow their deeds to perish.

Severe Punishment for non-believers
22.19: These are two adversaries who dispute about their Lord; then (as to) those who disbelieve, for them are cut out garments of fire, boiling water shall be poured over their heads.

22.20: With it shall be melted what is in their bellies and (their) skins as well.

22.21: And for them are whips of iron.

22.22: Whenever they will desire to go forth from it, from grief, they shall be turned back into it, and taste the chastisement of burning.

Severe Punishment for non-believers
72.23 : (It is) only a delivering (of communications) from Allah and His messages; and whoever disobeys Allah and His Apostle surely he shall have the fire of hell to abide therein for a long time.

98.6 : Surely those who disbelieve from among the followers of the Book and the polytheists shall be in the fire of hell, abiding therein; they are the worst of men.
