Bible-believers often complain about sex in library books, television, movies, and art museums. These complaints, when successful, result in censorship.

Christians should realise, however, that if books are to be removed from the library because of their sexual content, then the Bible should also be removed.

I do object, though, to the Bible's sexual ethics. For example, in Genesis 19 Lot (who is called just and righteous in 2 Peter 2:7-8) gets drunk and impregnates his two virgin daughters. There is no indication that God disapproved of Lot's behavior, its the stuff of a Jackie Collins novel, but if it were filmed in America, the moral Christian wing would demand that the rapist were seen to be punished...

Yawn, so I miss typed the question, but you still understood what I meant by asking it?

Some of the material in the Bible is filthy by any standard. Yet Ezekiel 23:20 is part of the "pure word of God". (Psalm 12:6, 119:140; Proverbs 30:5)

Hi Rift, I am an Atheist - since you ask, and why would I want to censor you, I am asking you a direct question, and giving you the opportunity to answer?

Dee, I am completly happy with life, and you assume that I am hetrosexual? I am as it happens... I also restore art, so have seen many examples of the 'fig leaf movement' when art was mutilated by the victorians.

But it is still occuring Hey Some religious conservatives, such as the late Jerry Falwell, criticize pornography on religious-moral grounds. They say sex is reserved for married couples, to be used only in accordance with God's loving will, and assert that use of pornography involves indulgence in lust and leads to an overall increase in sexually immoral behavior. So why did he then suggest that the Tellytubbies was a gay production?

A widely publicized case of religious censorship occured in 1990, when the Cincinnati Arts Center agreed to hold an art show featuring the work of photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. His work included several artistic nude photographs of males and was deemed offensive by 'some' people for this reason. This resulted in the prosecution of the centre and its director, who were later acquitted.

We have to stop mistaking healthy criticism of religion for racism, and must not let minority extreme views of a few inform goverment policy of the majority. Responsible religions shouldn't inflict their beliefs on others, and then the media will not need to ridicule nutters and their nonsense.

Formerly a singer on the Captain Kangaroo show, Reisman claims that watching pornography causes the brain to emit "erototoxins" which have a toxic effect upon the viewer.

Reisman’s 'research' is that pleasurable experiences produce endorphins, If that’s their scientific basis for banning porn, eating chocolate will be next.

If it were up to Christians, we wouldn't have most of the art we have now.

And it's even worst than just sex. I've read stories where Christians in Africa, in this day in age, are destroying generations old tribal artifacts because they are 'heathen'.

Religion may have its place, but when it starts stifling creativity or destroying a rich culture it has gone way too far!

It's not the censorship per se. Some religions do organized mobbing in order to intrude into people's lives and to gain control over them. They publicly declare what is "right" to do in the private spheres by making rules for the most basic human functions like eating (see religious diets), sex, types of relationship, substance use, etc. Those who don't follow, will be the "false believers", whose exclusion, punishment, or - in extreme cases - killing is considered to be justified. It's a typical "divide and conquer" strategy.

It is the more you stir a turd the more it stinks principle So if you get someone elses turd to stink more than yours. Yours is hidden. It is like the girl in the long dress that does everyone and swallows at a party and when she walks down town two days later the people say why cant all the kids dress like that and be like her. Our society is mixed up with bigotry and pejudices that keep us from enjoying life. christians seem to have the need to make it difficult for others to have a peaceful life.

Sex is a gift of God, but it has been twisted by the sinfulness of man. The Bible shows that those who follow God are capable of getting it wrong too, we are not superhuman and we make mistakes. If the Bible was full of perfect people who never made mistakes, it wouldn't reflect reality and would be unbelievable.

You will find Christians do believe they can set moral standpoints for the mere reason of trying to justify their existence which suggests insecurity. You will also find that it is Christians along with the Bible stories who invented patriarchy. there is nothing wrong with being religious but dont be a fanatic!

Sex is a powerful driving force in human affairs so by controlling the sexual activities of a group it helps you in keeping control of them.
As to someone commenting on Lot having sex with his daughters in fairness I understand it was his daughters who got him drunk and had sex with him because they believed that everyone else in the world had been destroyed and it was their duty to have children. Just shows you how gullible people were in those days

stop looking for attention!!

it doesn't happen. Your just trying to look for something to rebel against. Why don't you just go out and get a girl friend or something?

last time i checked the Internet, library, television, movies etc there was as much sex there as i wanted.
just cause you maybe sexually frustrated or into some weird animal stuff you shouldn't blame other people.

Christians removing books from libraries ... hahah!! whatever next?

I am a christian, and i do not have a problem with sex. i talk about it openly. I think that you think we are all like that. I don't know why, but you are not the first and won't be the last. I like the idea that everyone should be able to see, hear and read what they like.

True Christians obey what the Bible teaches. And the Bible does not ban sex but puts it where it belongs..within marriage.
(Genesis 4:1) Now Adam had intercourse with Eve his wife and she became pregnant. In time she gave birth to Cain and said: “I have produced a man with the aid of Jehovah.”

(Genesis 4:17) Afterward Cain had intercourse with his wife and she became pregnant and gave birth to E′noch. Then he engaged in building a city and called the city’s name by the name of his son E′noch.

(Leviticus 17:7) So they should no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the goat-shaped demons with which they are having immoral intercourse. This will serve as a statute to time indefinite for YOU, throughout YOUR generations.”’

(Judges 8:33) And it came about that as soon as Gid′e·on had died the sons of Israel again took up having immoral intercourse with the Ba′als, so that they appointed Ba′al-be′rith as their god.

(Romans 13:13) As in the daytime let us walk decently, not in revelries and drunken bouts, not in illicit intercourse and loose conduct, not in strife and jealousy.

Further explanation should be un-necessary

And the irony is they don't believe in birth control, so they churn out babies like it's a career.

I think they only censor sex that they don't approve of. Another irony is that they cheat on their wives, look at all the pastors who are adulterous.

I think some Christians put impossible standards on themselves, which in turn makes them do the very 'sins' they preach against.

They need to learn that we're all human, and that being 'saved' doesn't make us flawless.

They need to grow up and deal with sex properly, and only try to censor stuff that is dangerous to children.

They're also a little too obsessed with homosexuals for me. I mean what's the deal? Why do they care what two consenting adults who are in love do to express that love in the privacy of their own home?
Their obsession with it is just weird.
