What made you decide for / against your faith?

I used to believe things that were taught to me. I believed them completely. Then I grew up and started thinking for myself. I learned through life and my own experiences and spiritual journey that what I had always been taught was untrue.

It was sad at first because I have always been very spiritual and to lose my faith in what I had always believed felt like a death almost.

However it was worth it and I believe that spiritual growth should be unending.

What makes a true believer? I'd have to say "someone who believes". I tend to accept someone's self-identification as such, since I really have no way to verify the claim.

Have you ever had any doubt about your faith? Of course. Sometimes there's some specific thing that causes me to doubt, in which case I investigate that thing to determine if there's a reason there to doubt. Sometimes, it's just those formless doubts that I think hit everyone at one time or another. I try not to pay those too much attention.

What made you decide for/against your faith? That would take a very long time to answer. The short form is, I became convinced that Christianity offers an accurate picture of the universe.

From the book of Hebrews 11:1 (Amplified Version):

"NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things we hope for, being the proof of things we do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]."

This verse is much deeper than most people think. It makes you redefine the concept of faith. I recommend reading the entire chapter. You will see that faith is an active principle one applies in life. Like a sixth sense, it gets stronger with practice and experience. Doubt is natural, but doubt in a way one doubts their eyes, and then looks more intently to make sure what he saw was really there.

Blessings.

Yea I doubt a lot, but through my doubt God has always reinforced himself. I am currently going through some big doubts right now so I ask that everyone pray for me if they don't mind.

What made me decide for my faith I really don't know. I guess its the only thing that makes life make sense.

Doubt is a sign of faith. ALL the Saints had their "dark hours." Mother Theresa's recently released diaries are a case in point. If she didn't experience those times she would have been inhuman and unworthy of Sainthood. Myself, it was practicing satanism and contemplating the black mass that brought me into my faith and to trying to become a spiritual person.

I have hope that my Creator exists. I want to find God and therefore I have to seek Him.

To believe means to "hold as true" and I have to "hold as true" that God exists in order to seek Him. (We don't seek things or people that we don't hold to exist.)

Faith is acting on the belief. I have doubts all the time. It is a matter of asking whether something is truly a "show stopper" or whether it is just an excuse. Does some apparent contradiction in the Bible, for example, constitute a "show stopper"? I was amazed at how many apparent contradictions were not contradictions at all.

Belief is taking the position that God exists unless proven otherwise. Those who reject God have taken the position that God doesn't exist unless proven. Which we choose depends upon whether we hope that our Creator exists or hope that He doesn't.

no doubt as such
plenty questions for sure
but as a Spiritualist , we dont have a book to follow and we are asked to question things and take only what makes sense to us
but personal experiences with spirit led me to my beliefs
although I am not a practising Spiritualist , it best fits my own beliefs
