My father recently passed and my car was in his name. The policy the car is on is still good for another year and i am a listed driver. If i were to have the title of the car transferred into my name would that void the current policy or would it not affect it?

The insurance policy must be in the name of the registered owner of the vehicle. If you transfer the car into your name you would cancel the existing policy and add the vehicle to your insurance policy.

It will not affect your insurance as they will rate the new vehicle on your driving record & use.

Since the policy holder is deceased, the policy is already nil and void...if you were in an accident and put in a claim you would be denied, if by chance they didn't find out the policy holder was deceased, and they paid the claim and then found out, you could face insurance fraud.
You need to put the policy and the title in your name, if you are over 25 and have a good driving record there shouldn't be too much difference in the insurance cost.

Depending on your age, it may raise. You really do need to get the title changed. Taking the chance that the current policy is still in effect could be costly if you had a claim.

If you are under 25 it will almost certainly go up, insurance companies consider younger drivers more of a risk and charge more
