I need information about un gaging ears.?

Question

Both my son and daughter have gaged ears. They tell me that there is a technique to close them. Can someone tell me how that is done?

Their granny has holes in her ears, not by choice but by accidents due to earrings being pulled from her ears. Over the years she has had to use erasers to hold her earrings in. Her ears now look like they are gaged. She is embarrassed. She wants to know if she could use the same technique to close her ears? If not granny wants to know where to buy gages and how does she determine what size she would need for her ear?

Thanks for your answers and links. I have a friend who told me her brother used some sort of glue to help close them. I was hoping that someone would tell me about that, but my instincts told me more that my kids were pulling my leg. Next it will be rings stacked around their necks and plates in their mouth! Unfortunately they are adults so there is not much I can say about it.

I would assume that you could have them surgically closed, by the same way they would stitch up a wound. But then she would have to re-pierce her ears after they've healed.

If she decides she doesn't want to do that, she can always go on line to Hot Topic or some other place like that, and buy the gages that are flesh colored plugs to make it look like you have no hole at all, and can be punctured with a regular earring and worn that way. If she's about the size of an eraser, I would assume she's around a 2 or a 0 sized plug since I've used erasers before to keep my holes open when I loose a plug. Good luck. :)

It has to be done surgically, as far as the gaging go to a piercer and they can usually get her the proper jewelry, that is sad! I hope she gets what she needs to not be embarrassed anymore ;(

*chuckle* I hate to tell you this, but your kids are pulling your leg.

There is no "technique" to close gauged ears (unless you count surgery). Most will close naturally if you remove the plugs up to 2ga or so (which is 1/4 inch). But after that, there is no guarentee they'll close, and after a half inch, they will certainly always stay stretched.

Sorry, but your kids are just trying to get you to not be worried about it.

you can close them surgically - the bottom of the 'hole' can be cut off and sutured to look relatively normal, or you can open the hole with a scalpel and sew it together
