I would say because of the connotation of certain words.

There has been racism for an -extremely- long time in our world. Race car driving, however, has only been going on since 1895. Also, the negative connotations that have been given to the word, racist, would be a prime example as why one wouldn't call a race car driver a racist. The word pianist, as far as I know, has not been given a negative connotation.

As for another reason, the prefixes/suffixes/Latin origins of the English language must also be taken into account.

I think many people who drive race cars ARE called racists, but not because they drive race cars. I hate NASCAR and the hicks who watch it.

never realy thought of that, thats a cool way to think about it

but i think its because in america we borow from so many difrent languages ,,alot of stuff just dont make since but it sounds right
