Hi Guys, I have an open plan living room and kitchen. My living room walls are half magnolia and half terracotta. I am wanting to change the appearance of my kitchen tiles using tile transfers (taking the tiles off and replacing them is too expensive and time consuming) and i would like some ideas on what would look nice in terms of colour scheme etc. Would terracotta mosaic be too overpowering? Comments much appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
The best thing with open plan areas is to continue with the same colours in each area, if you don't then you will find that each space looks smaller and it won't feel 'open'.
It sounds like the terracotta mosaic will be fine if it is the same shades as you use in your living room. I would try to keep the mosaic on the same level as the terracotta in your living room as it won't be so distracting to the eye. Good luck!

Sounds like you need some cremes and or beiges that are more lighter in there, if there is anywhere to paint. Otherwise introduce the lighter colors in accessories, like in fabric, candles, vases, etc. Get some good lighting in there as well. Maybe some pendant lights hanging from those high beams to bring light closer to eye level or some track lighting. You can paint over that "swirly, pitted, bumpy cement finish", just make sure you get the right kind of paint. Some lighter greens would work well with all those more earthy tones from the brick and stone. The greens can be introduced in the same ways as above and/or through plants and/or planters and baskets. There are also stains available for changing the look of brick/stone. Might be something to consider.

I agree with Angel on the same color scheme thru out, however, one color can dominate over the other in each room giving it an individual look...I have done my open floor plan as such using 3 different shades of blue..My living room is mostly navy blue, light blue walls, med blue trim, and the kitchen is mostly light blue with navy blue & med. blue being accent colors...
The terracotta is fine to use, moreso in the kitchen, yet accents for the living area..good luck!

I think the terra cotta would look nice, but maybe combine it with a golden beige, or even a green-gray. You could come up with some beautifully interesting color by painting in patterns, like beige-beige-terra, or beige-green-terra-green-beige, etc.
