It breaks my heart when I compare these two incidents. God is supreme however and he said, "I will have mercy for whom I will have mercy and I will show compassion for whom I will show compassion". Remember the story of Jacob and Esau? God loved Jacob but hated Esau even before the boys were born. Its is God exercising his supremacy. But I find comfort in the fact that His mercies are new every morning so there is a chance for everyone to obtain mercy. There is no record of saul repentance even though samuel the prophet did grieve for him. In response God said to Samuel, "How long will you grieve for saul seeing I have rejected him as King."

Saul never did what God told him to do. God was the king of Israel before Saul was, and he only gave the people a human king because they were complaining about it. David started as a humble shepherd, but he had a heart that was right with God and stayed true to God's commands. When David did wrong he was always truly sorry and took full responsibility for his actions. As he got older, he strayed further and as punishment, God didn't allow him to build the temple that he had designed for God, but as David had done so well, one of his sons would be permitted to build it, and it would be the most magnificent building known to that time.

Interesting that surfari admits he has "communication with the spirit world", that explains the rantings & lies! When you look at the personality of David, it should make us all check our own. He was very repentant of any wrong doing and that is exactly WHY he was approved by Jehovah. I think this is worth listening to from David: Ps. 52:1-4 1 Why do you make your boast over what is bad, O you mighty one? The loving-kindness of God is all day long. 2 Adversities your tongue schemes up, sharpened like a razor, Working deceitfully. 3 You have loved what is bad more than what is good, Falsehood more than speaking righteousness. Se´lah. 4 You have loved all devouring words, O you deceitful tongue.

King David, flawed as he was, was remorseful. Read Psalm 51. King Saul, according to Scripture, never asked for forgiveness from God or from anyone else, for that matter.

David was a great leader that God used in spite of his sinful ways and nature.
He is a great example of what not to do and how obeying God works and disobediance doesn't.
Saul is another example all together.
In either case they represent the people more than themselves.

As I remember reading David 'repented' and admitted his sin. Sail would not. He kept trying to justify his actions. And he was disobidient also.
