all painkillers thin the blood which is not preferable when getting tattooed. i doubt your tattoo artist will want to tattoo your full ribcage in one session. it will be painful but you should be able to handle 2-3 hours at a time so that is what you should do.

This is how it works with painkiller and beer.....You dont want to take these things the DAY before. If you take them right before you go and get tattooed its not going to thin your blood that fast. My tattoo artist is the one who told me this and I have drank beer while getting tattooed and I never bleed anymore then the average person. I have also taken painkillers before and never bleed out. So take it for what its worth, but I have 12 tattoos and all of them are great.
P.S...My ribs hurt worse then giving birth to my child...So have fun with that!!!!! LOL

Don't take anything containing aspirin/ibuprofen as they thin the blood and make you bleed excessively...Not good as it wrecks your tattoo. As someone has already said you can buy Emla cream....It's the stuff they use in hospitals on kids before they give them an injection. It's a local anesthetic so it numbs the area....I took a couple of paracetamol with codeine before my last tatt.
Sure you'll be OK though because it's not really that bad ;)

Actually alot of people say to take some kind of pills, but DONT!!!! They will make you probably bleed more than you want, what I did for my tat(from the shoulderblade-ribcage-hip)...its LONG...i drank a TALL Red-Bull and ate a candy bar, I did that to get the adrenaline already workin so when the tat was started my body didnt go into shock with all the pain...so i suggest some kind of sugar drink/food...worked for me.

be careful of the pills, Advil may thin your blood, and that would be no good for the guy doing the job... Call the Tattoo place and they will tell you what is ok to take and/or how to handle a tat like that.. Good luck!!

Painkillers may thin your blood, but Apparently Tylenol is fine to take but my advice is speak to your artist he will be able to tell you. But the pain is part of an awesome process.

no don't take any painkiller because they have a thinning effect on the blood!
If you really can't handle doing it without a painkiller you could use some topical anaesthetic it's called Emla
but keep in mind it is a prescription-only substance in most countries and you have to apply it yourself because it is illegal for tattooist to apply Emla (in most countries)
