NO we were build for a varied diet
the vegan that i know who had been vegans for a long time ,all looked pale and were sickly.
to do it for a while will clean the system
But we need also protein
and that comes in many forms
snails are healthy
check out what Aztecs were eating ,from a very sophisticated sustainable Bio-diverse agriculture
utilizing the EDGE EFFECT of the Chinampas ,even breeding duckweed and algae ,snails .frogs ,shrimp, and rich policultures of fish
as well as chickens ,and a great variety of interrelated plants growing on the edges of the water around the man made peninsulas ,fertilized by the excrement of the public toilets anfd the rich mud from the lakes
A CHANGE OF DIET YES
BUT
You do not need to stop eating meat ,just stop eating cows ,they are very destructive .
They are not natural animals but are an invention of man.
.
Their feet and weight compact the ground and raise the salt to the surface ,If left long enough.
They change the natural pampas grasses because of their limited preferences
And they consume a lot of water ,
If not carefully managed ,they over graze and kill the grass by eating it down to the roots.
They are also expensive to raise because of disease and parasites(medicines and tick baths),as well as constant vigilance ,(extra labor)
On top of all that forests are cut down to make way for the grazing land ,
Mexico is being destroyed by tortillas and beef ,
their principal food (they hardly eat vegetables)
And now we are told over and over again that they contribute 18 to Global Warming Although how this is determined beats me ,maybe they got fart meters
So bad cows ,but really bad people not so much the ones who raise them ,they merely respond to the market, but the ones who insist on eating them ,and those promoting the product.
------------------------------...
If only we could be persuaded to change our diets ,maybe make it a new fashion to eat wild life ,but managed and bred.
Wild boar,Rabbits ,Deer(many varieties), Pheasants ,Buffalo, Partridge ,Iguanas,Ducks ,Crocodile tail(delicious)vipers (double delicious)the list is endless,,can all be raised and produced with out harming the Environment under the trees using Natural Flora or Fauna with some extra food and salt licks thrown in. ,
And so turning forests into meat raising and tourist operations(controlled hunting and photography).culling the males ,
Ending up with sustainable situations with multiple benefits ,both economic and Environmental ,the meat ,the hunting ,the Eco tourism ,and the Environment as a whole.
The best example ever ,of sustainable grazing or land use for animals , which offers the maximum benefits, has never been employed ,
People are so clever .
And that was the African veld or prairies ,these places were jam packed with many hundreds of species of animals and grasses ,an immense treasure of meat ,and the food needed to sustain the production included in the landscape, with a quality and disease control build in ,(in the form of predators ).
All we needed to do ,was to protect it and cull the males for the market.
Man in his wisdom killed the animals ,changed the flora ,added cows or sheep and destroyed the place within a 100 years
This is what happened in South Africa ,Many places that once were full of wild animals are now deserted(abandoned) ranches because of desertification due to over grazing and over use of subterranean water supplies.
------------------------------...
NOTE
The hooves of deer are pointed ,they punch holes in the ground (which is one method of reclaiming deserts ,punching holes in the ground)this forms a micro climate where one seed can sustain it self into germination by the one drop of condensation that is created by the hole,
And they need far less water, getting most of the moisture they need from the plants they eat.
------------------------------...
So when we talk about sustainability ,In the beginning, Nature still is the mother of all sustainabilities
the almighty secret is eat something else
but everybody has to do it and this wont happen
even when we are shooting flying pigs
(imagine one of those falling on your head).
or their droppings hitting the fan
lol.

The question shouldn't be 'should everyone be made to be vegetarian' but 'what would happen if everyone went vegetarian'.
if i go vegetarian, my impact on the environment is reduced. what if everyone did?
as far as the environment goes, eating veg is far better for emissions impact than eating meat. Growing cows for food is very energy intensive, they fart as much damaging gas per year as a Land Rover almost, and the room they take up to feed and nurture could be used to feed VASTLY larger amounts of people if used to grow vegetable crop.
as our population grows, and oil will be come more costly, vegetarianism will become more widespread through necessity. we can feed more people with veg. ten years from now there mightn't be a choice.

Examine your teeth in a mirror. Next to the incisors in the front are a set of teeth called the bicuspids, they are also know as Canines. They have only ONE function, and that is for tearing MEAT.
The human body is designed as an OMNIVORE. We need complex chain proteins to live. The only place to get those complex chain amino acids is meat.
It is POSSIBLE to combine foods to finish the protein strands, but it is not easy to do, and takes more effort than most people will put forth, which is why so many "Vegetarian" teenagers get so sick all the time.
The greater question I think is your view that people should be "Forced" to do something because it is something that YOU choose. Where do you get the gall to think that YOUR way is the right way?
Why is it that you feel being a vegetarin is better than eating meat in the first place. If it is some misguided idea that animals have "Rights" and should not be eaten, then you need more help than I can give you on Yahoo Answers.
Short form... Look up the dictionary definition of a "Right". Animals do not have the capacity to exercise a right, therefore they do not have any. Period! this is not open for discussion. ANIMALS DO NOT HAVE RIGHTS.
People have an OBLIGATION to treat animals HUMANELY. IE: AS A HUMAN WOULD. This includes eating them, as long as they are not made to suffer when they are killed.
You have a lot to learn, and until you do, don't try to tell others how to live.

It makes sense, since meat is costly and producing it is a significant environmental burden.
Still, I don't believe that Hitler should impose his eating habits on the rest of the world (he was a vegetarian, did you know that?).
I am all for market-forces. Price the meat according to its full costs and environmental impact.
Then people may think about it, skip it for a day, or choose to eat the meat and pay the price.
Freedom of choice, I say.

Perhaps your suggestion is good, yet we can't force people to do what others have done,
Becoming a vegetarian will not only help us to become healthy but will also help in our present atmospheric problem.. According to some findings, Eating a lot of meat added some percent on our problem regarding earth warming.

If it would earn me a BEST Answer, then Yes. But truth is, both meat and vegetables have their own benefits to our body that neither of them can suffice alone.
What we need IMO, is moderation and balance of what we eat. We need a clear, visible and IDEAL diet plan circulated through our media (Oprah, anyone?) or maybe, taught to children in schools. The reason I speak of children is because one would inevitably face great opposition if one imposes it on adults who have already gotten used to their own ways and diets. Children, on the other hand, have better chances of being molded in a positive way, at least in terms of health and diet.
Going back to your question, SHOULD EVERYONE MADE TO BE A VEGETARIAN? The answer for me, is No and clearly, impossible. But, WOULD EVERYONE BENEFIT FROM BEING A VEGETARIAN? Obviously, yes (health-wise and environmentally).

Oh My! That's as ignorant of a statement as "Everyone should be made to eat meat, 2 lbs a week minimum"
Geez, when do we try to take over Poland and get rid of a certain race of people Hitler?
I'm a die hard meat eater, fisherman, and hunter. I eat what I kill and buy meat in stores that others have killed. I buy a hunting and fishing license every year, even years I don't hunt or fish. The money goes toward preserving wildlife areas in my state.

No, the human brain has developed because we are meat eaters. The protein that our ancestors ate let them develop larger more complex brain, thought patterns and problem solving capabilities.
We have plenty of meat substitutes today but nothing that can match the real thing. I, personally, do not have a problem with eating almost any type of meat. I also do not have a problem with anyone that is a vegetarian, as long as they do not try and push their beliefs on me.
Plain and simple it is a choice about the way you live your life, there are many ways to influence your decision.
Plus, I am a member of PETA...People Eating Tasty Animals!!

Two reasons that is a bad idea;
1. the dictatorial nature of forcing drastic changes on people will take a large police force.
2. The wholesale slaughter of all the world's cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, etc. in order to have the land for vegetables for human consumption would be a massive waste and a detriment to the environment.

Swap a bowl of pasta for just a bowl of vegetables. You can save up to 200 calories by slicing the starch and adding vegetables.

no,i am not agreeing with this statement.if everybody will be vegetarian and start eating only vegetables then one day would come when al the fruits & vegetables would over.If a part are vegetarian and a part are non-vegetarian there is a balance on this earth i.e.if evry bod will be vegetarian the number plant will decrease and the number of animals will increase.so it is not necessray for everybody to be vegetarian.
