Sorry Jinny. This makes much more sense. Where I work (not in CA) the judge issues a warrant. It then needs to be entered into the system so the cops on the street know about it. Then the cops go get him.

I work in a small department in the midwest and this process doesn't take long (less than a day). I would assume that in SF it could happen faster. I assume that they also have police officers whose only duty it is is to go scoop these people up on warrants. The thing that will set it back the most time is whether or not they can find him right away.

In most states, officer may make a warrantless arrest in the first 12 hours after a domestic violence incident.

After that, law enforcement must refer to the county/district attorney for a formal complaint which then goes to a judge to issue an arrest warrant. Except for some large jurisdictions, this shouldn't take much more than a week.

Once an arrest warrant is issued, it's up to law enforcement to execute the warrant. At that point, the delay usually comes down to whether or not law enforcement knows where the subject is. Large departments have warrant divisions with officers whose sole job is to arrest people with warrants.

As long as it takes for them to find you. There are many who have escaped the long arm of the law, and kept out of jail. But, when they do find you, they probably will add a charge for running.

in "SF", it would take as little as it takes to catch you.

I thought this type of questions were like common sense ones.

I guess US has looooooooooooooooooong way to go.
