Well, while driving the dirt roads of the Big Horn National Forrest I found speed limits varying from 10 mph to 45 mph. On the paved highway (#14) it was 65 mph.

Most of them are 20mph. but it all depends on which park.. I would not want to go 20mph on some of the roads through colorado national monument park, and I beleive that it is posted appropriately(10 mph). The reason I know this is I just talked to a federal agent in Natl. parks. I received a warning this weekend being off road in a National Forrest, (I did not know, there was a road bed).

55 mph in rare areas of large Forrest's-defiantly no more. Most will be 25 mph or less. Lots of pedestrians/bikers and big damaging animals are always out and about. You should be there to see things and enjoy them- not get through as quickly as possible- that's what i was told by the ranger who stopped me!!! A fine is almost inevitable.

DEPENDENT UPON THE ROAD--
DIRT ROAD 10-20
CRUSHED ROCK--20-25
ASPHALT-35
CONCRETE-45

BEST BET:
LOOK FOR A SIGN THAT USUALLY HAS A SPEED POSTED-***CLUE****
THIS SIGN IS PAINTED WHITE WITH BIG BLACK LETTERS SAYING (SPEED LIMIT) AND A SET OF TWO NUMBERS UNDERNEATH (BELOW IT) LIKE 20-30-40-50-60 ETC--GOOD RULE OF THUMB FOLLOW THE POSTED SIGNS AND YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG.

Each road is individually posted. Some may be posted at a much lower speed than others.

certainly nothing faster that your view around a corner or up a hill, i think 45 is a good speed to avoid hitting a deer
