Depends.

Do you, despite all evidence to the contrary, believe America is a "Christian Nation?"

Do you want to deny gay people basic rights?

Do you think that Muslim automatically means terrorist?

Are you against sex education and birth control, but can't seem to figure out why all these sinning heathens keep having abortions?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, congrats, you're a fundie.

No, that's not a fundie.
But you may be a fundie if you meet a few more criteria:

1. Is the Bible the Word of God, infalible and innerant?
2. Is the Bible completely sufficient for all matters of faith and doctrine?
3. Do you believe that the Bible should be interpreted literally, except where the text demands a non-literal reading?
4. Do you believe that extra-biblical tradition is wrong?
5. Do you believe that Roman Catholics, liberal Christians, and members of all other religions are going to hell?
6. Do you believe that the government should mandate prayer in school and ban gay marriage?
7. Do you believe that salvation depends exclusively on accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior?

You don't have to be Fundie. Most ancient religious texts have been found to be using symbolism extensively and if read as simple prose, are either not comprehensible or can lead us ashtray. Therefore, reading them so many times can't really lead to a better understanding. When I read so many questions and answers here,it becomes more and more evident that people just pick up something from the text, interpret it in their own way (as if the text was written yesterday)and ask questions, mostly to ridicule or to laugh at the text.Childish and stupid it is but worse,it pains people who deeply believe that it is sacrosanct to them. Therefore, more then reading, what's needed is understanding and that requires back ground knowledge of the times when such texts were written. For that, you don't have to be a Fundie,or would you?

Fundamentalists are determined to restore the lost point of the religion as they see it, and thus generally disallow any other truth to be told than what they understand, or assume is true to the ancient practice of the religion.

If however you are willing to accept changes according to the extingencies and needs of the times, then you are not a fundamentalist. This includes the possibility that all things may be interpreted as allegorical unless otherwise stated by the explicit text.

For instance if "coming in the clouds" means Jesus comes again when men's eyes are clouded and can not even see the reality of the changing world needs different appearances, unlike the unchanging spiritual truths, so is not literal. While "coming as a thief in the night" may literally be to be in the house, and the owner does not know it...

You see by their consummation of these two predictions, and their agreement, the truth of the intent is verifiable, but where contradiction appears, then misunderstanding has also become evident.

"The] Law of God is divided into two parts. One is the fundamental basis which comprises all spiritual things—that is to say, it refers to the spiritual virtues and divine qualities; this does not change nor alter: it is the Holy of Holies, which is the essence of the Law of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Christ, Muhammad, the Bab, and Bahá’u’lláh, and which lasts and is established in all the prophetic cycles. It will never be abrogated, for it is spiritual and not material truth; it is faith, knowledge, certitude, justice, piety, righteousness, trustworthiness, love of God, benevolence, purity, detachment, humility, meekness, patience and constancy. It shows mercy to the poor, defends the oppressed, gives to the wretched and uplifts the fallen. ...

The second part of the Religion of God, which refers to the material world, and which comprises fasting, prayer, forms of worship, marriage and divorce, the abolition of slavery, legal processes, transactions, indemnities for murder, violence, theft and injuries—this part of the Law of God, which refers to material things, is modified and altered in each prophetic cycle in accordance with the necessities of the times."

A "fundie" is a fundamentalist, or a Christian that feels he has the right to shove his "laws" down everyones throats. Because he believes it to be true, so must we all. Muslims & Jews have "fundies" too, just they are not called that. All of them are off, humans do not have the right to control other humans private lives and decisions about their own lives.

But to read and reread the bible makes you thorough, not a "fundie".

If you live your whole life according to the Bible and only the Bible then yes, you are a Fundie.

Fundies don't necessarily have to give speeches about the evil of others, although most do, but just live their lives according to the Bible's words.

"Fundies" don't get that way just by reading the bible.

They get that way by accepting and practicing a strange type of Christianity that ignores the real and authentic Christian fundamentals, and the authentic church of Christ, and substitutes for them the non-authentic late day faith traditions of various groups, who are typically headed by various confused people.

Contrary to what many believe, the bible does not define itself. Some person, pastor, leader, or group is always working to interpet or reinterpret it, according to their own image and likeness ... and that's where the strange beliefs and practices come from.

So ... are you a "fundie"?

It all depends on who you choose to follow ... what you profess ... and what you actually believe.

In my view, a Fundie is someone who's closed minded to other points of view. I think it's great that you read the Bible, so do I. What makes someone a fundie is that they think only their interpretation is right and that everyone else is going to hell unless they agree with them. It's just important that we agree to disagree respectfully and allow others to have their own opinions.

Knowing the Bible doesn't make you a "Fundie". Being so delusional that you believe it is literal, when reality indicates otherwise makes you have put the mental in Fundamentalist.

no, there are Atheists that read the Bible multiple times and claim to understand the text. The real question is, how do you interpret the bible and what does it mean to you on a personal level.
