There is nothing new about Movie downloads. They have been around for a couple of years. Check companies like Movielink and Cinemanow. Even Walmart has a movie download service. You don't need a DVD , but you still need a player to play them and high-speed Internet connection.

You did see an article. It's called Vudu. Comes with 5,000 movies according to the article. I don't think I want to pay for 5,000 movies that somebody else has selected but I'm sure that the selection you can buy will grow. The question is: How much will each movie cost? It might also be hard to take your movies over to a friends house to watch them together. You couldn't just pick the few you want as they are stored in the machine. The link below leads to the Vudu home page if you want to see it.

You did, though I doubt it will make much of an impact. People in general like the idea of ownership of things. I want that DVD, want to be able to look at it, see it, touch it, etc. I have a hard drive full of movies, but don't bother with them until they are on a disc. These companies seem to think that they can make the iPod of video, but most likely none of them will really do much to the industry at all.
