The reason I used the phrase "spent time with him" is because I was just responding to a question where someone said that. I've heard of "knowing", but not "spending time with".

To Messiah's puppy: First of all, I don't take to kindly to being called "dear" by a complete stranger. Secondly, I do understand that they mean spiritually when they say that they "know" him.

Spent time with him? I would have a problem with that because I speak to him, yet he does not answer in words. If they said they, "Knew him", I would interpret that as in prayer; not in person. Is he dead? I highly doubt it if the scriptures are true. That would be an issue for debate. According to what I have read, Jesus was a man who did indeed die, however the story continues to confuse people because he seems to be God also. As the son of God, he would not be God, yet the holy spirit and the trinity thing comes into play. As well, if he were the son of God, why would such a divine being allow his son to be tortured? For our sins? That just doesn't make sense. God could have forgave us without the demeaning torture of his only son. I just don't get that part. Plus recent investigation suggests that after being tortured that there would be no way that any man could have carried such a heavy cross of solid wood to its final destination.

Judaeo-Christianity is derived from a numerous amount of religions that existed far before Christ. It all started with the worship of the sun, the giver of life. It is all based on pagan beliefs. The people that believe they speak to god or Jesus are simply brainwashed. That being said, religion does do some good in the way of herding the masses. It also gives the weaker ones some sort of hope in hard times. Not to mention eternal life! Now who wouldn't want that? But sadly no, they are simply fooling themselves.
I am sure this will get some criticism so I have posted a link that may help you to overcome your denial.

Any Catholic can tell you about the time they spend with Jesus .. right in the here and now.
Catholics have the benefit of things called "sacraments" and every sacrament entails a powerful, personal, and real world encounter with the risen Christ.
So we Catholics do know Jesus, we spend lots of quality time with him, and he's not dead, but risen, just as we all expect to be someday.

It means that they've had a spiritual experience. It's not only Christians who use this sort of terminology. A Wiccan friend of mine talked about spending time with her goddess. To me, it just means that she spent some time in meditation or in spiritual contemplation about that particular deity.

'Isn't he dead?' Well that is your first mistake. No he is not dead.
Take time to study the bible before making assumptions that are not true. There is avast amount of information in God's letter to each and every one, on how to live you life, and do the right things to get you to eternity with God. To know Him, is to love Him. It is a personal relationship that an individual has with God.

No. It's not any different then saying "I hung out with my girlfriend." You must realize when Christians say "they've spent time with Jesus," they've actually had fellowship with Him through his Word and prayer. They are not referring to a physical connection.

To you Jesus is dead. And it would freak me out beyond belief to have to spend time with your "friends". Too much shallowness and arrogance in an evening would make me want to do crack, so I'll spend time with Jesus instead.
