ok dude, "were stupider than people today" you know that’s just asking for it.
A literal belief in the bible appeals to a lot of people, I personally don't understand the attraction nor do I understand where they get the idea from..
that being said .. I would not dismiss the Bible or its overall message... It really does have a ring of truth to many things, and really when i read John, and even Mathew,( yes I know written at least 200 years AD and the man was the king of the hyperbole ) I can get excited about a belief in Christ and his message .. which I think is pretty good.. Love all, be kind, don't cause pain .. believe in something greater than yourselves ...

Greetings,
You certainly would not have said that,if you had read the Book through which God has made his Sons Faithful,Through which People have come to the Lord for help, through which many believed and are saved.Do not be like the heathen.Pray to God,to open your eyes, for nothing is impossible with God most high.He is the Creator of all things. In this this whole creation, nothing happens without the Consent of God.He is so caring about all his People that so much so that not even a hair falls from their head without him Knowing.
The Bible is the Living Word of God, through which your soul and the soul of all those whoever believes in "The Word" might be saved.
Peace Be With you.

To ask an intelligent question, you first have to be certain of the information presented as facts in your question. The protestant Bible contains 66 separate books. The Catholic Bible has several more. You would do well to look up the history of each of the books and discover how old the Bible really is. Then ask your question so that it even applies to reality.

The Bible was written by people like David & Paul through the inspiration of God. Now, even if I take out the 'inspiration' part, how stupider can they be compared to you.
We are free to ask anything here at Yahoo Answers, but please, reflect first on what you write.
Why not tell us about the 'book' that you do believe.

The traditional Christian opinion as taught by the fathers and theologians of the ancient Church is that the Bible was written by human beings *about* God. But I would not say that they were 'stupider' than people of today. Most of what you consider 'stupid' is actually satire, hyperbole, or allegory.

I accept that the bible is nothing more than a collection of stories. But some people for whatever reason are not able to see that, and what is ever scarier is that most want to follow the bible literally.
For goodness sake the book of Lev: is filled with acts of atrocities to commit to someone who goes against god

How many other books you know of lasted as long and been through as much trouble as the Bible has, NONE. One with solid backing as to it's origin, and authorization, NONE. One that has told of past and present events and has been proven. It also predicts the future.

The people that wrote the book as they lived it, is not stupid, they had all it took to write it, if the people of today can not read it and understand it, then who is stupid? If it were an ordinary book of fiction, why have countless Christians given their lives for it?
