My spouse has recently been in the hospital for a couple of months now. We have three children and I am the only one working at the moment. I live in Texas and am in need of TANF and food stamps, maybe even welfare. I work a lot and am unable to visit these offices in person so my only other choise is to either mail in an application for approval, or to do it online. Is there a way for me to submit an application online? If I have to mail in the application, would I be able to receive benefits without having to visit the office location? Is there any information or thoughts you might have that might help me regarding assistance with clothing, food, paying bills, etc. Please answer nicely, no rude comments about my situation or anything about shoulda, coulda, woulda....Looking for help. Thank you and God bless.

fae - I appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks for making me feel even worse than I already am. I'm doing the best I can at the moment and with the hours I work am unable to contact these offices during their office hours. If you don't have any positive response to this, please don't waste my or your time.

I'm not aware of your situation but if you're in need of help from the state, you're most likely going to need to contact them directly and in person. The reason for this is because there has been too many issues happening with invalid use of SSN#s and so forth. You basically have to prove you are who you say you are which means showing a driver's license and another form of ID because you are dealing with the government.

For what it's worth, I'm a graduate student studying a career in management. Yes it's an inconvenience but you may be able to contact the SS office and explain the situation to set up an appt to see someone. It will require you explaining it to your manager this needs to be done for a family emergency and I'm sure they'll let you go and make up the hours.

Something else you may want to look into is financial help from the hospital. Discuss a payment plan with them. I don't know if you have insurance or not but that isn't the point. Talk to someone in the billing office at the hospital and ask about paying bills on a fee that you can afford. Make the point that you are head of household (only person working) and have dependent children. As long as you are honest with them about your situation and make every attempt at paying your bill they will work with you.

Best of luck and hope your husband gets well soon.

That sounds so unorigional, like the guys on the corner with a cardboard sign "I only need 47cents" Pleasssssse! These guys step out of cars with their "starbucks" every morning headed for their particular good "fishing" spot and they troll up and down the freeway off ramps looking dejected and dragging their limbs (alot of contortionists) this is a buisness! Anyone needing information just needs to contact Social Services in their county,You need to jump the hoops like everyone else, go out and make it happen.
