just like any marriage, if there is an understanding of their differences and they are OK with them before getting into marriage, I don't see any problems.
the problems come from wanting to change the other person into what YOU feel they should be. It doesn't matter if their differences are in religion or whatever.....there has to be an equal balance of understanding or any relationship won't work.

I believe that they look okay from the outside, but if you were a fly on the wall you would realize that the marriages are in trouble, because the two people are what they call unequeally yoke.

One person is on a higher spiritual plan than the other, and the christian has christ, but the nonchristian does not know christ and this is where the problems is,

the unbeliever is out of christ and is ruled by the prince of this world, so when problems come in their relationship the unbeliever can't or don't know how to tap into God to guide him or her out of the problem and usually handle the situation wrong thus causing more problems to arise.

I am now dealing with this problem in my marriage, it is stated in the bible the a child or God should not married an unbeliever.

[2 Corinthians 6:14/KJV]. For a more modern translation, the NIV states that verse as "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" [NIV]

I think that "successful marriage" is all most an oxymoron. So, to add Christianity versus Atheism to the marriage, seems to be practically unheard of.Not that it never happens. But I have yet to see it and so I don't have a thought on successful marriages of Atheists and Christians accept that I doubt it is often that there is that much success.

Well, I like a religious girl, and not only am I an atheist, but I'm very strongly opposed to religion as a whole. As long as you stay away from the topic, you should be good, but if you do enter a relationship, you shouldn't lie about your beliefs, don't ever change who you are for somebody.

Fortunately I'm married to an atheist like myself.

I do know a married couple that is atheist and christian, they never had issues about it until they had kids. It was the religious upbringing of the kids which concerned the parents. They decided they would be honest with their kids about their "agree to disagree" arrangement. The kiddos are doing fine and they attend an Unitarian Universalist Church together, which allows them to feel comfortable with their situation while still acquiring a sense of spirituality and community.

Personally I don’t know of any myself, but I am sure there are a few. †

I (not the Lord) say to the rest of you: If any Christian man is married to a woman who is an unbeliever, and she is willing to live with him, he should not divorce her. If any Christian woman is married to a man who is an unbeliever, and he is willing to live with her, she should not divorce her husband. Actually, the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and an unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise, their children would be unacceptable to God, but now they are acceptable to him. (1 Corinthians 7:12-14 God’s Word Translation) †
