i want to be a detective but i do not want to be the people who go undercover. what are they called . is it just a detective who solve cases. and what is the difference beteween a svu detective

Investigators or detectives typically don't go undercover, that's a seperate department. They use evidence, witness accounts, informants, and the results of interrogation to solve crimes. And SVU is just a single "specialty" or division of detectives, they handle every criminal case that arises.
