Can you post a picture of it? Just remember though, since it is a stray, people can only make educated guesses, and some folks ain't too educated.

Are you certain that the dog is a stray? Sometimes even well-cared for dogs can escape accidentally. To be sure, place a found ad in your local newspaper. Most found ads are free. As far as the questions about his age, breed, etc., only a vet can answer those questions, and you should have him checked out anyway if he is a stray, as he could have some health problems that may not be apparent to you.

Look at finding its owner first. Then if you can not find them. Just keep it. Dogs are animal you do not have to pay someone to buy the dog. If the dog is a true stray. No one is looking for him. Take him to the vet and get the shots and everything.
If a dog got away from you and got lost. Would not you hope to get it back. Dogs are not as smart as some people think. They can get lost real easy. And they do the dumbs things.
So with the money that you save from paying the adoption fee. Give it to save the childern they need it more.

In Order to legally adopt it you have to bring it to your neighbor shelter when no one claims it in 2 weeks,it is your in the meantime the dog gets all checked out while he is there flea bath and all if they feel he needs it so you will have a professional opinion on the dog they just about alwasy can telll the make of the breed at the shelter if you put a picture of him on herer mabe we can take a shot but need something to look at to say what it is,, If you live near a petco or shop there they give free adoption books to anyone who adopts any animal they have grat coupons in there just though you may like to know that if you go that rout.. Good luck Dogs a re great add to a family

well a photo will help , and also take the dog to a vet or local animal shelter so that they can check to see if the dog has a chip and can be returned to his owner , but if not the vet will do a exam give him shots do all the tests , you can go to banfield they don't charge office visits on Saturdays from I think 2-4pm but not sure you can always call to see. because it will cost from $50.00-$150.00 depending on the size and what the dog needs. and while you are at it get him a chip it only costs about $35.00 and if lost they can find you that way .
good luck

Without a photo of the animal or a detailed description, i.e., weight, color, shape of muzzle and ears, length of hair, etc.
Do you think this is a stray or someone's lost dog? If a stray, take it to a vet to check for deadly heart worm and get his shots. The vet will tell you if it is a breed or a mutt. And will tell you what shots he needs.
Thanks for saving this dog from peril.

if you are unable to post a pic. than the vet that you take it too will be able to tell you. they will probably vaccinate it and should be able to tell you the age, breed and other questions you may have.
