Everyone I've ever known that had one would answer YES! They are eager to train and love to learn new things. They are also a bit stubborn, though...so lots of love!

They are very smart. But, they are also very dominate, and a high energy type of dog, who can be aggressive if not trained right. It is important for the dog to know right from the beginning who is the boss. Jack Russells' have very high self-esteem, and will not respect a timid trainer . Firm but gentle handling is very important in the training of this breed. Get a handbook on JRTs if you are even considering getting one. That will help you decide if this is the breed for you.

Intelligent but also very, very hyper. You need to work really hard to wear out a JRT. They should only live in an active household. Great to jog with, hiking, playing fetch, entering into Earthdog trials, field trials, agility, obedience, fly ball...... the list is long of activities that you and your JRT can enjoy together and that will burn up some of that excessive energy.

Mine is VERY smart. He knows all his toys by name, he knows the color of my sister and my friend's car from other cars,he knows a ton of tricks, he understands when I tell him something is in a certain room. And he is only 9 months old. With most dogs, it mostly depends on the time you are willing to put into teaching them things. My Dad always said, there are no dumb dogs, just dumb owners.:-)

They are very smart and desire a LOT of stimulation - you can teach them anything you want, but you have GOT to have the patience of Job and the energy of youth to keep up with them. I'd say if you are considering one, you should be sure you're ready for it. :)

Smart, but take patience to train as they can lose concentration very quickly. They are distracted from training easily, so it needs to be very one on one.

Absolutely! You need to spend some time excercising and training though! Mine does agility, jogs with me, plays with her border collie puppy brother and plays frisbee.

They used to be but are so popular that irresponsible breeders are breeding the dim bulbs to more dim bulbs.
Not good for any breed. Popularity breeds contempt.
