You say he is a guard dog. So all the people that to create him is stupid, how is he going to guard locked up? A guard dog has to have free roam or what good are they? I would suggest putting a blanket over the couch that he can lay on.

I have 2 large dogs, a Dobe who was allowed on furniture at his last home and a Lab we have no prior history on. The Dobe hops on the couch when ever the 5 MinPins let him and sleeps on the bed as well. The Lab gets on the couch when I am not home, I've caught him a few times when he was the only loose dog..lol..so I just cover the couch with a sheet and grin and bear it. My GSDs were never interested in sleeping on furniture, too hot I guess. Buy a few king sized flat sheets or furniture throws and take them off and shake them when you get home as long as the dog doesn't eat the couch. You can get scat mats that shock them, gizmos that emit a high pitched tone when the dog goes near it, collars with shock systems for off limit zones but dogs can be persistant. A really nice comfy dog bed might help too. Since my couch they get on is near the front window that is part of the attration, they can watch me leave and come home plus people walk up to the front door.

Leather is pretty durable, so he probably can't do a lot of damage to the couch. Does he slink off and look guilty when you discover him on the couch? If so, he knows he is not supposed to be on it. It just depends on how important it is to you to enforce the "no couch" rule. You may have to leave a few times, and return in a few minutes to catch him in the act and scold him. That is probably not going to keep him off the couch when you're not home. If it's not a big deal- let him enjoy his couch.

You could try getting a plastic runner they use to protect high traffic areas on Carpeting. If you turn it over it has prickles. Lay it with the prickles facing upwards across the couch, When your dog attempts to jump on the couch it will be annoyed by the feeling of the prickles touching him so he won't want to lay on the couch. And will find a more comfortable area to relax.

All 6 of or dogs are allowed on the furniture. If you really don't want him on there, then you could buy an expen or exercise pen and put it around the couch to discourage him from getting up there. You can sometimes find the pens on Craigslist. They are expensive though.

You have a few options:
Crate the dog, allow the dog on the sofa, purchase a 'scat mat' and put it on the sofa to discourage use of it, put a cover on the sofa to protect it and just let the dog get on the sofa when it is covered.

I place my empty laundry baskets on my couch before I leave. It keeps my dog off and they are large and easy to move when I get home.

If you don't care,
Leave him there.
If you care, get him a crate to be in when you are not home.
Crate training can be done to make him want to be in the crate. Google it.

set a few mousetraps and place newspaper on top. when he jumps up the traps will snap and make a pop sound and the newspaper will protect him from getting hurt.
