I've had this off and on and the last few days is really annoying me. Directly below the center of where my ribs end, maybe around the upper stomach, I have this hard, full feeling. If I feel around it seems like something is there but I don't know if it's cartilage, my diagphram or what. I've been on Nexium for 4 months, had an endoscopy that came back normal. Could this be a side effect of nexium? I'm starting to get worried I have stomach cancer! My bowels are fine, no pain, swallowing is fine, appetite is fine. Any suggestions ?

I get that feeling frequently. It's just gas. Nexium keeps your stomach contents from coming back up into your esophagus, which sometimes means that your belches have a hard time coming up, too. I recommend taking a Gas-X or two when it gets really uncomfortable.
PS: the top of your stomach is located directly below the center of your ribs, then it takes a turn towards the left. Ulcers are usually a distinct pain or burning, not just a vague full or bloated feeling. Your gall bladder is on the right side just beneath the edge of the ribs. If you had gall bladder problems, you would feel a sharp, stabbing pain.

Sounds like constipation. If you do finally go to the bathroom (#2) and you still have the pain then the doctor could check for an ulcer. Drink lots of water and increase activity ie, go for a walk, You can also buy over the counter stool softener. If you go #2 and you don't have the pain after that you will know what the cause was. Feel better soon!!

drop the nexium, it's poison, get a good enzyme from a reputable health store, take alot of a good acidophilus, there are lots of different kinds out there, take one that has millions if not billions of active enzymes. Take these and I can almost promise you, you'll start to feel a whole lot better and it is better for you. The bloating will go away, the gas pressure will too, I know I had the same thing except I didn't take nexium to cure it. But it does take a few days to really feel the results because you are putting in what the food used to have in it naturally....the enzymes. You should continue once you start this regiment too because of the lack of enzymes in our food nowadays, you see everythings been processed out, there are no more natural enzymes left in the food. Unless you have natural food store in your neck of the woods ie. like a "wild oats" natural foods store nearby. If this is the case then you need to get there and start buying the "organic grown foods", and still take the enzymes for a while until you feel better. Enzymes also prevent heartburn from occuring if taken regularly. Good luck and good health.

I personally think you are just bloated from your period and you have gas. Gas pains can be extremeley painful and often are located below the ribs and have a pot belly. Maybe exercise to get everything ....well moving and drink alot of water, and maybe take a fiber supplement and get rid of stuff and then you wont have horrible gas pains!

What sort of diet are you on? If you're eating very heavy and fatty foods this could be causing it. It's possible that the medication is also causing it.
I would suggest that you try eating foods that are low on fat content and see if that helps. If it doesn't, then you might want to ask your doctor if it is safe to go off the meds for a few days to see if they are causing it.
