I gave my puppy her 12 week shot today. I gave it to her behind the neck, where I gave her her previous shots. For some reason this time (8+ hours later) the lump is pretty big and not going down. It also seems to be very sensitive. (she whines a bit when I try to rub it) Is there something wrong here?

It's an allergy.

After 8 hours, I don't think you need to worry about breathing problems (which can and do happen) but, future vaccines can cause bigger reactions.

I STRONGLY advise the next round be at a vet.
The more vaccine introduced, the stronger reaction there could be. (It's more complex than this, but it's the general idea.)

Good luck

I have had that happen even when the vet gave my puppy a shot. I called the vet and they told me it was nothing to worry about. She is fine now but every time she gets a shot by anyone it turns into a knot for a week. She is 2 now so I don't worry anymore.

Mine had one from the vet giving it a shot that they almost wanted to do surgery.. it was the size of a soft ball and lasted for over a month.. we had the surgery scheduled.. then it went down in a few days.. So, what I would suggest is use heating pads on it..(low setting, and do NOT leave the dog unattended).. not too often... it might help.. but it should be fine.. if it doesn't go down in a few days call the vet and ask, but.. It should be okay.

This is common...you can massage it to disperse the solution....the lump will go away in time.

You did give her the shot under the skin and not in the muscle...right? If you inserted the needle into the muscle..that could be why she is whining. If you gave it to her under the skin..that's the correct way....as long as she isn't showing any other reactions she should be fine. But, if she continues to whine like she is in pain, you should see a vet

It's a common occurence and no problem. Sometimes it takes a few days to go down.
