Bad names like the N-word...

And of course to demean any other minority like women, Jews, etc...

When, if ever, will it be unacceptable to insult a Christian? Why is it that if Don Imus would've said Christians are nappy headed hos, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the other guy would've been on TV and that would be the end of it...

But because He called a basketball team nappy headed hos, he got all that of above and fired and then re-hired, etc.etc.et.c?

I don't think it's right and it's a double standard. If a kid in school calls a black kid the n-word he'll be suspended, but if he insults a Christian...will anything be done to him?

Shaollot(I know I mispelled it but I'm too lazy to go back)....they should punish the kid who made fun of a Christian...

Mr. Taco...yeah, I know how horrible the N word can be...

Lets just say 1 year ago(the beginning of my senior year) we had people arrested at my school and cops temporarily stationed in our school because the "hicks" and the blacks threatened to kill each other and some people were rumored to have brought guns to school....(it was never confirmed)

Yeah...I know how serious it is.

getagrip...I think they should have "holiday" shows...and they should tell the basic beliefs of those holidays...like Chanucka(I can NOT spell it...sorry) and the oil burning for 8 days(or 7...whatever)....and Christmas and how christians belief Jesus was born, and Kwanzaa...and.......well, I'm not sure what they believe, but I know it has to do with blacks...sooooo...

Anyway, I think it's good for the kids to get exposure to different cultures.

Hey Brian! You're acting like this is something new or just been invented. But first off, what does the "N" word have to do with being a Christian? Most black people are Christians but no one insults their belief system! They insult who and what they are which is the cruelest thing one person can do to another. Look at who we try and protect Brian! Blacks, women, Jews and any minority who has been oppressed, tortured and put upon because of who and what they were and are. No one insults Christians per se but that doesn't stop people from hurling other insulting remarks their way!

The lesson to be learned is that it's not right to insult anyone because of what they think, how they feel, what religion they practice, what the color of their skin is, who they love or what gender they are. It has never been right to call people names of any sort that are demeaning, insulting and hurtful. Thank God that today we have some recourse because I remember a time when there was none...for anyone!

Sadly, Christians are not a minority. At no time in our nation's history has "Christian" been an oppressed group. Apparently some of them are trying to be one right now. That makes no sense to me. The upside of Christianity is that it is designed in such a manner that it could unite individuals across color lines, but questions like yours indicate that that feature is not being encouraged among young followers at this time. Shame...
By the way..."the other guy" that you mentioned is probably Al Sharpton, and I'm sure some of those basketball players were Christians. So I guess the answer is now. It is unacceptable at this very moment to call a Christian a "nappy headed ho." It's also just a ridiculous thing for anyone, especially a grown man, to say.
And as for your last question (about the offensive school children), I don't know that it would be an issue to a Christian, who would have been taught by his faith to "turn the other cheek."

My creed - We are all human beings trying to do the same thing - life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Stop for a minute or two and erase religion, only religion, still black, white, Latino,Japanese, whatever , only religion. If it's easier for you, we are ALL Christan's, and hell there is no other religion - so Christan.
Don Imus has displayed an obvious racist outlook on humans. Please check his previous racist comments - I know of three..............Fired, because the stations that carried him were not willing to take the public outrage. Re - hired because the sponsors ( money ) he brought in came before all moral obligations to society. Greed certainly can be the root of all evil .Cant' argue the double standard ....
N - word - I'm 40 and own my own home - My mother came over and a heated argument ensued - she said the n-word ! " Mom , please don't use that word in my house " I responded. Ten minutes later - she did it again - I asked her to leave and stood my ground. Racism sucks !!! I will not bend my morals on this at all - I kicked my mom out of my house !!!!!
My long thought out reply to the N-word - Certainly a intelligent human being can come up with a better adjective to describe another human. Hope my point of view helps you.

Christians have bought into the culture of the victim. Only problem is they don't understand that not having the government pay for their religion isn't an infringement of their rights. Oh the poor majority isn't allowed to make people study the bible in school anymore, wah.

Problems with your claims.
1. Name me an insult for Christians, that remotely has the impact of the N word. There isn't one or if there is one it is in Greek or Latin and is a couple thousand years old. Powerful majorities rarely have the equivalent of such words. Anything you call a Christian is just a normal insult directed at a Christian. Most of the time, they just get called stupid. If you don't want to get called stupid, don't bring up your philosophy in public. That's the first rule of philosophy.

2. Imus insulted an actual group of people, In this case a bunch of young female athletes by calling them whores. Understand the difference? Unfounded smears, some would say libel. When Bill Mahr or some such comic calls all priests pedophiles, it has some basis in reality. Now if Imus had called all female basketballl players whores, there wouldn't have been any excitement. He didn't, he singled out a specific team to call them whores and he made it obvious he was only calling them whores because they were black, by his crude attempts to "speak" black.

Its is alright to call people of color "black" rather than ***** or african-american. The N word has gone long ago with the slave days. Its a new day. If you are not of the same color or race and use the N word its not acceptable and those are considered fighting words. I heard what the radio announcer said about the girl's or women's basketball team, and I don't think anyone should pick-on someone' physical attributes, especially when they can't help it they were born with them. It's like picking on a person in a wheel chair. Being a christian I was taught never to pick on people in such a way. We're human with feelings and emotions. Here's a good saying "The tongue weighs so little, yet only few of us can hold it." He also couldn't hold in his racism, at least that is what is sounded like to me. Have a nice day.

Well Christian, just be greatful that you can walk around and nobody will know you're a Christian. So people can not demean and discriminate against you unless you tell them you are a Christian. Black people on the other hand get called nigg3rs, get racial profiled and discriminated against just for the color of their skin. And nobody freakin cares if they have a good heart or if they are really smart or tallented. All they see is BLACK and automatically stereotype. Don't EVER compare being black to anything until you know 1st hand what it's really like to be black. Honestly, I'm kind of sick of hearing white people cry about a double standard. White people control this whole freakin country. You have all the money and all the power. Stop whining.

I am sure most Christians can handle some name calling. There isn't any words out there that are so demeaning as the "N" word, and the Gospel basically says that we shouldn't care what people say about us anyway. So who cares? I don't think you quite understand the debasing scope of the "N" word. Maybe you should take a racism and diversity course or something. Regardless, most schools do not put up with name-calling of any kind. If your kid is being called names, you need to call the principal and do something about it.

And yes, I am a Christian.

We're called ''Black British'' in the UK. I don't know about Germany but I hear the term ''Afro-German'', so maybe it is so. Just call yourselves Black American and call it a day. Then leave African American to describe the distinct ''Black American'' group who predominately descend from black slaves during the slavery era.

Well no its not a double standard at all.

Are you aware that black people are descriminated against, and face oppression every day? Well if you havn't already learned this in school (seems you havn't), black people have faced being a minority in the US for hundreds of years after including being used as human labor machines (slaves). Even in todays modern world they face gargantuan societal and financial hurdles in order to achieve a standard level of life.

(white) christians on the other hand have been the ruling majority for the entire history of the US (and beyond) and continue to enjoy every advantage and opportunity possibly available through out life. Besides all of the doors in society being open to them, they also have a strangle hold on federal legislature so that the laws that are passed here in the US tend to lean heavily to the moral self-righteous. In no way do (white, male) christians face any form of significant discrimination in American society and I would challange you to prove otherwise. They don't even have a hate filled word like 'n--ger' to call a christian.

So when comparing these two groups, it would be increadably naive to ask 'why can you throw a hate filled insult at one and not the other'?

shouldn't your question be, 'why would anyone want to yell slurs at a person just based on stereotypes?'

You have to take into account the history behind it. The "n" word has an extremely hurtful past. There are no words to insult a Christian that really compare. Christianity is also the dominant religion in the U.S. and in much of the world. If one was insulting a Christian, one would attack the beliefs and the tenets. It would be an attack similar to a character attack. While it is not right, there is no double standard simply because the two topics are on completely different levels.
