Printninja---why wouldn't you go to a wedding in a church??? I know you're an atheist, but if you are friends with the person getting married, you're going into the church for them, not God....do you know what I mean?

yes, it would make no difference to me. (as long as they didn't try to convert me.)

i prefer not to be prejudice on any subject.

I'd have to say the chances are almost zero. Unless that person kept their beliefs ENTIRELY to themselves, and agreed to not force their religion on our children. Chances are it still wouldn't work, because a Christian would probably come to resent me as soon as I started refusing to go to weddings in churches, baptisms of relatives, communions and confirmations, and funerals.

For most Christians, their religion is a part of their personality. Would it be fair to marry someone when you actively dislike part of who they are?

It's possible, but HIGHLY unlikely.

EDIT:
Why wouldn't I go to a wedding in a church? For the same reason I don't go to any functions held in churches. I find the entire notion of religion to be delusional, and I have no desire to take part in other peoples delusions. Two people seriously pledging their love and loyalty to each other under the tenants of a mass delusion, and the guidance of an invisible sky bully, is both embarrassing and belittling to me.

I'd rather watch people get married in the eyes of the tooth fairy --- and I'd probably pass on that bizarre ceremony as well.

No. In the words of my christians friends' good book "do not be unequally yoked".......and I quite agree. Remember you do not only marry the person, you marry into their family. Such a great difference would be stressful and too difficult in the long run...especially when children come along. Marriage is enough work without adding unnecessary strain. It's not about prejudice, it's about common sense.

No. I would not have enough in common, having totally different life philosophies would not be giving a relationship much chance of success and if it did, I think it would lead to too many struggles eg I would never have my children brought up being told lies about the universe etc so there would no doubt be constant conflict.

That's a really good question!
I wouldn't consider myself an Atheist, however I'm not at all religious, so if I found a christian that could support that then yes, I would.

Sure, so long as he were intelligent, considerate, well-read, funny, a hard worker, moral and ethical... all the traits I look for in a person to be involved with. Whether a person agrees with me on things is quite low on the list, actually, so long as he can be respectful of my position on things.

As long as they put out :)

I did date a Christian before I met my wife. Religion really never came up.

I'm an agnostic; do I get to answer?

Personally, no, I would not. If they're not an agnostic too we just don't have enough in common to be compatible. That's just the way I feel about it.

Why not, I'm dating one currently.
Just because I do not subscribe to her beliefs, does mean I don't like her character or anything else
