No, they are not doing all they can....the reason is they are in the back pockets of Corporate America...the very ones who brought us NAFTA and a soon to be NAU if they have their way. And who says that money cant buy everything?? (wiping the sarcasm from my lips....)
The bottom line is money and profit...nuff said...

Of course they are not doing ALL they really could to address the issue.

They are going about it
1. Half-heartily.
2. As slow as possible.
3. Deporting some, but not ALL illegals.
4. Illegally hire about 500,000 of them in Government agencies, and Government Contracting businesses.
5. Have known the problems have been here for years, yet continue to give them amnesty.
6. Could have enforced the Federal and Immigration laws on employers, and businesses, but that would have to include themselves.
7. That fence, and beefed up border patrol was always been talked about for years, and nothing done to fix those problems.

All at Tax Payer expense. So No, they are not doing ALL they could to fix the problem. Why should they? It comes out of our pockets not theirs.

To ask if the government is doing all it can regarding any issue, comes first from an immature understanding of government.

However, the real fundamental problem with illegal immigration is that regarding principle, democrats find themselves in a battle between wanting socialism and wanting open borders(as it's impossible to have both), and in pragmatism, republicans and democrats alike perceive economic benefits from it. This is because they're correct.

In all honesty, there should be open borders. The only reason that we have immigration quotas at all, is because we have to put a cap on the number of people coming into the country so as to not destabilise the socialist institutions. The first immigration quotas bill was from 1924, and that one was simply racist. However, 1965 comes along, and racism is gone from the Congress except for Robert Byrd and Strom Thurmond, respectively. Yet they still pass this nationalities bill of Ted Kennedy's, so if racism is gone, which clearly it was, then what is the only other reason? To sustain pragmatic socialism. (Of course, the nationalities bill reprioritised quotas to allow more people from hispanic countries and less skilled workers from Europe, but don't ask the government to make sense, especially not Ted Kennedy)

If they were to simply get rid of the entitlement programs, they could easily have open borders and let anyone register for citizenship provided they learn English, and anyone could be a citizen within less than a month.

However, it seems clear that no one is interested in thinking a long these lines. Even people speaking against entitlement programs in principle, benefit by being unproductive. There is a profitable business to government inefficiency.

We have already had an amnesty and laws since 1986. The government just won't enforce them.

We are technically in a state of anarchy right now...

Police and the government do NOT have to enforce the law. Affirmed by the Supreme Court...

Castle Rock, Colorado case....

What TOTALLY amazes me is that the MAJORITY of the CITIZENS of the USA do NOT approve of these illegal aliens sneaking into our country, but for some reason, the people WE ELECTED TO REPRESENT US are NOT doing what we want them to do---GET THE ILLEGALS OUT---- Do our legislators even CARE what their constituants are SAYING and FEELING? I tend to doubt it based on their past performance in this and OTHER issues. It's like the issue about dropping the word "GOD" from our money and our Pledge of Allegiance..... only 14% of the people in this country WANT those words removed--yet our LEGISLATORS seem to be siding with the MINORITY 14% rather then siding with the 86% of the country that want to leave it just the way it is..... WHY AREN'T THOSE BOYS in WASHINGTON DOING THE JOBS WE WANT THEM TO DO???? Do they represent US or just THEMSELVES???? Seems to me most just represent their OWN causes and they don't give a damn about US.

I don't think they are doing enough. However, after years of letting it happen and doing nothing it is hard to stop the flood! This problem should have been addressed many presidents ago!

No of course they aren't. And they aren't doing Jack about it.

Or--depending on your outlook--they are doing Jack. And Jill. And Joe. And Sue. And John. And Betty. And........

Well you get my drift. Everybody's getting $crewed.

Of course to be fair, they maybe distracted. They might be trying to win the war on terror.

I wonder if sarcasm is inappropriate in this matter????
