Boy, I could argue both sides. Some people are guilty of thinking everything is the fault of the devil and others don't believe he exists.
I personally don't think you should underestimate his power in the sense of his ability to deceive because he walks around as a lion seeking whom he may devour.
BUT there are plenty of scriptures to let you know he's not as powerful as he may seem. I'll give you a few. First off he's the accuser. He couldn't touch Job w/o God's permission. Second we are more than conquerors through Christ. Third no weapon formed againast you shall prosper. Fourth Psalms 91.
Going another route you should never think Satan is God's twin so to speak. He was created by God. Jesus' flesh was the only thing not God so even he isn't a twin to Him. Satan is no more than a rebellious angel who lost his glory. Though he does do damage in the world and in lives he has no authority over a saved person. He can't read your mind. The Bible says we sin because we are tempted by our own lust. If I had never desired to smoke a cigarette there's no temptation to smoke. On the other hand if I enjoyed it at one time then the temptation is there. The temptation isn't a sin only the acting upon it is. Btw I just used cigs as an example because there's been so much talk about them lately. It could be anything. Most things you are tempted by you come into contact with everyday. But you're having a bad day and that thing that used to tempt you shows up it's easier to give in.
Satan is NOT omnipresent, only God is. To do even a fraction of the stuff he gets accused of he would have to be an omnipresent mind reader. For all his former glory God never gave him that ability.
Oh yeah and another good one is when Paul said you do good to believe but even the devil does and he trembles. If we are walking through something with the Lord His presence is with us and the devil is going to tremble.
He is god of this world BUT we are only in this world not of this world.

For us humans, we should NEVER under estimate the power of Satan. Even the apostle Peter warned us in 1 Peter 5:8 "Keep YOUR senses, be watchful. YOUR adversary, the Devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking to devour [someone]"--- Peter compared Satan to a roaring lion (a hungry lion waiting on it's prey). Can you under estimate the power of a lion? Of course not! It is the same w/ Satan. After all, he can change himself into an "angel of light" to blind us and keep us away from the truth about God.
Our world alone is being controlled by Satan and people do not realize this. All the awful things going on around the globe; people say it is God's will! IT IS NOT!!! it is the influence of Satan!
NEVER under estimate his power. We are only humans! We are easy prey...

We shouldn't underestimate Satan and his schemes, but he has no power other than that which God gives him. We ought to be careful perhaps not to overestimate him either, he is nothing if we know scripture. The Word of God is all you need to defeat the lies his followers whisper into your ear. For example if you feel guilty of some past sin even though you have repented, you need to know what the Bible says, that you are forgiven, so you say it out loud until the lie is replaced by the truth. Jesus is the light of the world, and when you turn a light on, the darkness has no choice but to disappear.

Well that is a dicey question. If you are speaking of the angel himself, he has little power over us directly and has no omni qualities about him. He deals in bigger circles than you or I. Though it is true we do not know how fast he moves or how many of the host the third numbered.
In the end I believe people blame Satan for more than he does and he becomes a scape goat if you will. I am not saying we are devoid of his influence merely his direct involvement. He has had time to permeate creation with a stain. The world runs on principles of the fall and he does not need to go out of his way in the direct attacks as we do the work for him.

Most christians under estimate the devil and always will until they gete off the fence, it is then they will see some of his power ,as things are they are no threat because he can push them over the line at his will .He waits for some thing to go wrong in your life and then sets about pointing the finger at God makeing out that he does not care so filling you with doubts, or when you have made a real comment to Jesus that realy gets him mad ,so exspect him to attack as soon as you do and be ready, love in the Lord

How can anyone under estimate the power of satan,he is real. The Bible says we have to resist him always by pleading the blood and if we dont know our Bible or filled with Jesus Holy Spirit we cant fight him.He works threw people we love to bring us down, hes out to kill and destroy, phyically, mentally, and spiritually. If he can get in your mind hes won,But as long as we keep the blood on our lives and apply it daily and leave no room for his thoughts or evil doings Jesus wil make a way out.We Plead the Blood and Satan has to flea.Amen,Amen

Why give the devil the same powers as God?
In the Book of Job, the 'advesary' needed to ask permission from God before he messed/tested Job.
One would also have to explain other verses like...
Isa 45:7 I form Light and create darkness, I make weal(well-being) and create woe(misery/sin), I am the Lord, who do all these things.
Deut 32:39 "See now that I myself am He! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand.
EXO 4:11 The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ?
Why do christians need the devil as an 'escape goat'? Why cannot Christians have 'self responsibility' for their actions without blaming it on satan?

I do evaluate Christians get the worst of it, whether that could merely be on the grounds that of the types wherein I roam. i've got seen fairly rather of abuse closer to the Muslims too, whether. i might probably disagree with the tenets of Islam, whether I easily have an argument with the *gadget* wherein some individuals disagree. As for the human beings who objective atheists, those which will nicely be Christian have have been given to income that on a similar time as they *will ought to* share their faith, it shows immaturity to even concern answering questions which will nicely be maximum suitable meant to be inflammatory. As for the atheists who've particular inquiries as to why we predict what we predict, i'm very disappointed with Christians who lash out fairly of with out concern giving an respond from the middle. How does furiously telling somebody that they are going to hell benefit the dominion of God? i'm saddened no longer aggravated to look somebody unenlightened.

Nobody should under estimate the power of satan.Thats just silly. He is in this world as we speak,he's in our goverment, making our food unclean,he is everywhere. He has folks following him,and they do by turning away from all the commands statues, laws God set in place, for us,that are his people, to do.He said he would have God's people following him and thats exactly whats happening.Mad cause he was tryin to be God himself and got kicked out, thats why he is here and he is still trying to be God himself when there is only one God.Not two, not three, not two in one ,or three in one.
