Alright so we can all agree that the issue of illegal immigration is important to most Americans right?
Maybe not the most important but at least 2nd or 3rd right?
So why do 3 of the top 4 presidential candidates support some form of pathway to citizenship or guest worker program for illegal immigrants (Clinton, Giuliani, Obama)?
And on the flip side why are the hard liners against it (Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo) all polling at 3% or less nationally?
Why is it that every single Democratic canidate and 3 of the Republican ones (McCain, Guiliani, Huckabee) are pro-comprehensive immigration reform?
Just some food for thought in a very one sided forum.... :)

Robert J.."pandering for the votes of the illegals"? How is that? Illegals can't vote. Legals can't vote.
I don't understand?

I think that "most" Americans are for reform. This page is full of people that feel adamantly about it, and, as such, it seems that 90% of the country is against it. I don't believe that is anywhere near true. I think few people really care. the ones that do find this forum to fight about it.

It takes money to be heard. GO ask the average guy on the street who is Tracendo, Ron Paul or Duncan Hunter. Corporation and the rich always had a bigger say in our government, beyond their votes. Frankly I question the press on how they act now that all the mega mergers took place in the media. CLinton, Giuliani and McCain has alot of air times, because they had a real reason to be on the news. SO there fore they woudl attrack the most attention, rather than the 3 who are tough on illegal immigration. My question is what made Obama so famous. He fealt groomed for a position.
Edit:>>> as for Ihate your illegal husband, There is a belief there are blocks of illegal immigrants who vote in California. THe courts have stated it exist, but the courts refuse to acknowledge the numbers are significant. THis came out of the Bob Dornan, Loretta Sanchez election in Orange County.

Awwww you crushed antis dream. You made them realize that they are only a small minority in large country. They know the truth but I think they're too afraid to admit it the fact that they only make up about 1/3 of the country. Most politicians will say and or do anything to get elected, if the majority of the country didn't want comprehensive immigration reform you wouldn't see most of the candidates supporting it. Illegals make up less than 5% of the country , hmmm let's see if say 60% of the country opposed a pathway to citizenship do you really think that they would care very much about the 5% of illegals? doubt it.......let them live in denial.........

Saying something repeatedly does NOT make it true Spazz and Amanda. Same as your BS slanted "polls". BTW, you do know Angus Reid is a CANADIAN poll, and doesn't use results from only the USA, more like several countries?? We don't make our policies based on Canadian polls or the opinion of people in other countries. The majority of Americans do NOT want the type of "reform" you are talking about and you know it (although you will never admit it, probably not even to yourself). The amnesty was shot down because the majority of Americans raised the BS flag and demanded it not be passed.
All polls need to be taken with a grain of salt....

Large corporations make large donations to Presidential Candidates.
After Americans stormed the Senators with hundreds of thousands of phone calls, emails and faxes when Congress tried to pass the "Amnesty Bill", you would think they would back off the amnesty issue. There were so many calls that it shut down the 202 Washington area code. That told them loud and clear how the American people felt about immigration. They do NOT give a damn about what legal citizens want. We pay their salaries, and they represent illegal aliens. I can only guess that someone else is paying them more. Large corporations who hire illegals, would be my guess. Tomorrow (Wednesday) they will vote on the"Dream Act". This is an amendment hidden in a Military Spending Bill, SA2237 by Dick Durbin. This is part of the Amnesty Bill which they will attempt to bring out bit by bit until they get what they need passed. This amendment will allow anyone who says they have been in the U.S. since before they were 16 years old, to apply for Amnesty, bring in their family and get instate college tuition, plus college assistance. I can't remember all of it, thats enought to make me ill. You can read it in full at www.grassfire.org , www.fire society.com, or http://numbersusa.com
Yes, we voted them in, and absolutely, without a doubt, they have sold us out. What else, beside a lot of money would make once honorable men and women turn their backs on their constituents, their home states. Perhaps they never were honorable to began with, and we weren't paying close enought attention, or were just to danmed gullible and naieve. One thing for certain, we can't turn our backs on them for one moment. They simply can not be trusted. As for the candidates, research everything you can, be as knowledgeable as possible and remember, all the promises they make you, will be paid for by YOU, by the way of a tax increase. Don't be gullible again!!!!!!!!!

Contrary to FAUX NEWS propaganda, there are many illegal aliens in this country who work hard to support their families.
These people may have paid taxes on their income, and are not a strain on the American system.
Many of them have children who are US citizens; these children may have never even visited the parents' homeland.
To offer providing relief to these people is a public relations victory; there are many people who are citizens of this country who work with these people, employ these people or are related to these people, who would support a presidential candidate offering such relief.

2/3 of the American people support some form of legal status for the illegal immigrants. Many of the rest are undecided. The candidates are realizing that the so-called "opposition" is coming from the relative small number of bigots and racists that still infect our society. And they are, quite properly, ignoring these trash.

For the same reason not a single President from either party since the last amnesty in 1986 has done anything of merit to solve the immigration problem i.e. enforcing our laws.

ALas voting is multi factorial. Very few people vote on the basis of a single issue. Heck I don't vote on the basis of a single issue. Those that do, will vote for Tom T, Ron P, etc.
Your points are valid, Sigy....but I'm not sure what the point is exactly.
Regardless of the position of those that running, they are still elected to represent us. And the majority of us are against illegal immigraiton and amnesty.
