You forget that man is a part of nature. All that we do is natural. We don't effect the Earth anymore than the 100 billion birds, or the 3 trillion trees.

It always makes me smile when I see people write that humans can't affect natural processes on a global basis. I wonder what that's based on? Vast experience and knowledge? I can remember the Cuban Missile Crisis, and 30 + years of Cold War when we had at times as much as 10,000 times the amount of nuclear explosives needed to end life on earth. I can remember the deniers of those days. There were much fewer than now. I think that's because most people had a healthy fear of death, and a healthy desire to live.
The lesson that was learned is that we all have to live on this fairly small planet, whether we like one another or not. When any group places it at risk, regardless of their reasons, it has to be dealt with by the other people. No one nation was strong enough to face the challenge of the aggressors then and none is now. The deniers told us then that a thermonuclear device was "just another weapon", and that a full scale nuclear war would result in only a "bad corn crop in Kansas that year". Though people of that opinion were few, it took the combined voice of the whole planet to over rule them.

I see your point and I think we have a whole lot to gain from being more environmental friendly. It is also very refreshing to live close to nature. But "leaving nature alone" is impossible for all living creatures. Even animals affect the nature where they live and can harm areas sometimes.
The thing as I see it is that we should be intelligent enough to act for natures best interests instead of being the worst enemies to this planet. We have the power both to destroy and repair and some great people in our world work hard to help nature recover. We should use more of our intelligence to help their work. It is a must in the long run if we want the earth's growing population to survive.

I am a landscaper, and what you are "guessing" is ridiculous. How would not trimming tree branches help keep a tree from being knocked over or broken in a bad storm? If anything the extra branches with extra leaves would put more force on the trunk in a strong wind. My neighbor has a Bradford Pear tree that he refused to prune, even though I warned him it would split in half. Eventually it did just that.
BTW, humans ARE a part of nature. We ARE animals. I know that is hard to believe sometimes.

It would be more pastoral or "pasture"al ... I'm not sure which ;-)
but it would be a good thing
Personally I would like to see a world like in the movie Code 46, but instead of vast tracts of desert between megacities it would be unspoiled nature. And you wouldn't need a pass to get into a city, you would need a pass to get out.

Oh yesssss. Our lives would be desperate. We would have regular, recurrent famines. Animals would eat us more than we would eat them. We would freeze in the winter and boil in the summer. Like the Indians, we would have to move our teepees every few days or a week to get away from the stench of our wastes. 30% of women would die in childbirth. Pneumonia would be fatal in 50% of people again. A journey from your village would be rare. Like India or China we would be using cow dung to cook our 'food' and to heat our houses, and on and on. lol

How would that be possible?
What would you eat? What would you dress? Every single thing mankind makes comes from a raw material found in nature.

Life is good for us because we have figured out how to get valuable resources from the environment. I feel good about that and am concerned that some feel guilty about it.
