Are there any scriptures that advise against it or for it?

I don't know and don't care. I would allow my hand to be cut off before I would raise it at my wife. If one needs a bibble or a jebus to teach one about that sort of thing one is a sorry example of religion for sure.

Did you know, Jacqueline:

The Bible says in Philippians 5:25 "
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it"

Unfortunately, not everyone believes that statement, and when one disobeys God and marries unequally, also prohibited in the Bible, then marriage relationships that are sealed by a wedding ring become a boxing ring.

If one would learn to not attempt to change their mate into their expectations, and follow Christs admonitions to turn the other cheek when assaulted, then the battles will continue and holy angels will flee from the home where the "fur flies."

One needs commit their life and marriage to Christ. If it gets bad enough, He will provide an escape. If your mate accepts Jesus and allows the Holy Spirit to lead, then your relationship will greatly improve, and you will have a friend forever.

God is absolutely NOT for domestic violence.
Ephesians Chapter 5 speaks it the best and these scriptures are mostly bent to make people believe that a wife must submit or be subject to her husband. Yes, you are but only if he is a Godly authority. That is, your husband treats you with proper love and respect. The Message Bible says it best.

Ephesians chapter 5
21Out of respect for Christ, be courteously reverent to one another.
22-24Wives, understand and support your husbands in ways that show your support for Christ. The husband provides leadership to his wife the way Christ does to his church, not by domineering but by cherishing. So just as the church submits to Christ as he exercises such leadership, wives should likewise submit to their husbands.

25-28Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ's love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. They're really doing themselves a favor—since they're already "one" in marriage.

29-33No one abuses his own body, does he? No, he feeds and pampers it. That's how Christ treats us, the church, since we are part of his body. And this is why a man leaves father and mother and cherishes his wife. No longer two, they become "one flesh." This is a huge mystery, and I don't pretend to understand it all. What is clearest to me is the way Christ treats the church. And this provides a good picture of how each husband is to treat his wife, loving himself in loving her, and how each wife is to honor her husband.

Hope this helps.

The NT advises men to love their wives and be gentle towards them. I believe in Phillipians it states to never lay hands suddenly on anyone, and this certainly included wives or men throttling other men.

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor REVILERS, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Cor. 6:9-10

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body.
