I watched the video (in it's entirety) of the Florida college student getting tasered when he finished asking John Kerry a question. Kerry was responding to the question when the man was hauled off. Kerry did not stand up for the mans right to free speech. I am unaware of a time limit to questions. The female officer was constantly interupting the mans questions. What is your opinion?

No. I saw a video of a college student that was hit with a tazer for resisting arrest. I also saw a video in which a college student was arrested for asking a question.

I saw it on the news and sure didn't like what I saw. Have they confirmed that he was actually tasered? I heard him say, "Don't tase me! Don't tase me!" then he yelled in pain. The only thing that confuses me is that when someone is hit by a taser (I was tasered in training) they go back stiffly and shake uncontrollably for a few seconds. They sure don't get up as quickly as this guy did without showing visible effects of the shock. I didn't see that happen. Also, anyone touching the person will also get a bit of the shock and will jump back when it hits them. I didn't see that happen either. Maybe he didn't get the full electrical charge, I don't know. Anyway, we'll know exactly what happened within a day or so. If he was shot with a taser I don't think it was justified as the several police on hand should have been able to handle him. Regardless, I suspect it was a set-up anyway. Near the end of the video I think I heard the sound of a herd of lawyers bursting through the door. :-)

He wasn't tasered for asking a question. He was tasered for resisting arrest.

The situation unfolded as such:

Kerry was speaking to Florida University students on a number of topics, none of which included the 2004 elections. Students were allowed to ask questions after the main speech was finished but were restricted on time and instructed to ask a question and sit for the response so others could ask questions.

The student in question, the part you don't see, never asked a question, rather he started on a rant about the 2004 elections and kept going and going. The camera only came on once officers were told by event staff that they would like the student removed as he was being disruptive.

The student was given a number of chances to remove himself from the situation and sit down. When he failed to comply with the orders of the officers to sit down he was committing disorderly conduct.

When the officers attempted to remove the student he became combative and resisted arrest, at that point the officers had both the right and the authorization to taser him.

If you watch the entire video I'm sure you can tell that the student has mental health issues as he believes that he is going to be hauled away and murdered.

Good old John flip-flopped again. He started right (as usual) by protecting the young fellow's question and asking that he be allowed to answer. The query was about impeaching Bush. This apparently set off the girl Florida cop who rushed him and you know the rest. And then, long puss backed down (as usual) and said that if the kid did something wrong then it's a law enforcement matter. Kerry is totally unable to hang in there. Guaranteed if he beat Bush in 2004 we would still be in Iraq. Also guaranteed is that no matter who takes the oath in January of 2009 we will remain in Iraq for years to come. There is no way out unless we're blown out by some enemy. And W will be laughing his skinny butt off down at the ranch.

He was asking a question in regards to the 2004 elections. His time ran out and he continued on even though the mic had been shut off. I suspect Kerry (and the university police) didn't care for his line of questioning. So much for it being Bush and the boys who are supposedly trampling our rights...
Still, the kid should have taken a clue. The mic had been shut off, and he was surrounded by four uniformed officers... Duh.

The dude must have asked Kerry a really stupid question! Seriously though, sounds as if Kerry answered the question because he thought he'd get more mileage out of it than standing up for someone's rights. Not surprising to me.

I did watch the video, but only once. What I saw was an idiot resisting police efforts to remove him from the gathering. However, if I am correct, they didn't use their tazers until they had him on the ground, and under control. That is not the correct use. Had they "tazed" him while he was upright, and resisting, I would support that completely.

As a person, you have to right to be humbled.
You have the right to respect others' rights.
Your have no more rights than the person next to you.
What the cop has in this case over that student is the right to do their job: remove the trouble maker.

I heard a funny version of this, instead of what Kerry was really saying in the background, they played his Vietnam torture diatribe ("reminiscent of Genghis Khan") along with this poor guy screaming. I couldn't stop laughing it was so funny.

ok there is a one minute time limit to asking the questions. when he ran over his time, they asked him to sit down & he said that he was going to finish asking his question. idk if they let him finish or not. pulling out a taser was a bit much, but he was acting like a two-year old. if he had returned to his seat quietly after asking his question then there wouldn't have been a problem. he was in the wrong, but they went a little overboard.
